This was the establishment of kindergarten in all schools in the state beginning in the 1973-74 school year. The teacher chosen to teach kindergarten at Kennedy was Ms. Marie Brown. She was young, just out of college, and probably just as scared as the seventeen children in her kindergarten class which she was responsible for starting on the long road toward graduation. She did an outstanding job, and thirteen years later, she’s still teaching kindergarten at Kennedy. Although, now she goes by Mrs. Marie McGee. As for her original kindergarten class, eight will graduate right on schedule, two failed, and the other seven moved away. Three of the original eight are in the top five seniors; Tammy Jones is valedictorian, Tim White third in the class, and Scott Crowley fifth. Scott Crowley also received a baseball scholarship to East Mississippi Jr. College, and Bryan Aldridge received a football scholarship to Jacksonville State. Ironically, the eight original kindergarteners, the first ever at Kennedy, are now among the last seniors to ever graduate from Ken- nedy High School. These eight include Bryan Aldridge, Denise Aldridge, Ashley Bradley, Harold Camp- bell, Scott Crowley, Tammy Jones, Terrell Stripling, and Tim White. Each has attended Kennedy for thir- teen years, from kindergarten to twelfth grade, and each has contributed a part of themselves to KHS. When they leave, they will leave a part of themselves, but they will also take something with them to keep forever. They will take memories of a place and time in which they will be forever young and footloose.
