. k KENALA Nineteen Hundred Seventy - One Kennedy High School Kennedy, Alabama i The Adventures of Our Kenala this year places emphasis on the activi- ties that are taking place in and around our school. Our purpose in this yearbook is to help you remem- ber the times we shared together. We hope it will bring back memories of the good times as well as those of acquiring knowledge. Student Life Adults and Children Find Adventure Anywhere They Roam •A X:x Whether It Is in Education or Recreation Our Arh')H 9 Or Just Within Themselves 12 Mr. Riley McGee received his B.S. degree from Livingston and his Masters degree from the Univer- sity of Alabama. He has been principal at Kennedy for the past twelve years. During his time at this school, the students have learned to appreciate him because of his attitude toward them. The faculty, parents, and students admire Mr. McGee for carry- ing out his responsibility because it is a way of his own. Elementary Faculty 1. MRS. LURLENE KARR First Grade 2. MR. CARL RICHARDS Third Grade 3. MRS. IMOGENE RICHARDS Fourth Grade 4. MRS. CAROLYN McGEE Fifth Grade 5. MRS. JOYCE BELL Sixth Grade English The English program had new scopes of learning this year. We studied pop- lyrics compared to poetry and put our thoughts on paper with posters. We also had opened discussions on all plays and short stories we studied. Leading these discussions was Mrs. Savage. The junior high English class had an ex- citing year. Under the instruction of Mrs. Ellen McAdams, the class made animals of paper and painted them as if they were real. Not only this but, the class had a reading period and were allowed to read magazines and books of their own choice. This made the class more enjoyable and was well informing too. 17 History This year the history class spent most of the time learning about our country. They wrote reports, gave oral reports, took test and listen to lectures given by Larry Williams and L. C. Steedley. 2 New Chemistry Lab Gains Students Interest This year at Kennedy science was a most enjoyable class. Chemistry was offered again to the students along with seventh through ninth grade science. The students enjoyed and learned more this year because they had the chemistry lab to work in. Teaching these classes were Terry Dillard and Mildred Truelove. Speech Class Offers Entertainment and Educational Skits The speech class does not only listen to the teach- er but each student writes and gives his own speech later in the year the class divides up in groups to learn and perforin a short play for the student body. This helps the student to learn self confidence and good performance. This class was taught by Ellen McAdams. Modern Math Skills Students for the Future Modem math has become one of the most im- portant subjects taught. This year at Kennedy general math, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geo- metry were offered to the students. Teaching these courses are Mr. Terry Dillard and Coach Don Thornton. Music and Drivers Education At Kennedy this year there were more music students than any of the years before. To make it this way, Mrs. Vick used more different methods of teaching. The students wrote reports on famous authors, sung popular music, and listened to older re- cordings. By using this method, the students learn to appreciate music. In Drivers Education the students learn more than just the techniques of driving. They learned the more important parts of a car that are necessary to operate and care for their automobile. Teaching this course was Mrs. Truelove. Home Economics Prepare Girls for the Future In Home Economics the girls sewed and cooked most of the year. Al- though, Mrs. Bryant taught courses in personality and grooming. The Senior girls learned about home management and child care. Agriculture Students Complete Chemistry Lab The Vocational Agriculture boys have accomplished and learned a lot this year. With the help of Mr. Karr, they com- pleted the chemistry lab. They also worked hard to complete the new con- cession stand building. 25 Physical Education The P. E. Class provides many hours of entertainment. The girls prac- ticed hard to compete in the County Track and Field Day. Many hours were spent learning the new tech- niques of volley ball. The boys attended County Track and Field Day and were also invited to a Track meet at Hubbertville. Business Education There were many courses of busi- ness taught at Kennedy this year. Shorthand, a first, typing I, and typing II. All of these courses are necessary to prepare the students to be the future business leaders. Staff } COOKS - 1. Joyce Bobbitt 2. Clara Bee Hudson 3.
