KENALA Kennedy Hig School Kennedy, Alabama The Dawn Our KENALA this year places emphasis on the changes taking place in our world to- day as well as those in our own school. It is our goal that this years Kenala will serve as a refresher of the memories that we made and shared together. We hope our yearbook will show that our school provided many moments of enjoyment as well as time for learning in our Dawning of a New Beginning. of a New Beginning Brings CONTENTS Curriculum — 13 Organizations 27 Sports 37 Favorites 53 Classes - - - 63 Advertising - - - 93 3 Conflict and More Relaxation CURRICULUM Mr. McGee Mr. Riley McGee received his B.S. degree from Liv- ingston and his Masters de- gree from the University of Alabama. He has been principal at Kennedy for the last eleven years. During this time, the stu- dents, faculty, and par- ents have come to respect and admire his adminis- trative abilities. 2. 3. Fifth Grade - MRS. McGEE 15 Films, Records, and Trips Portray the Past as Well as the Future The field of social studies offers a wide variety of courses at Kennedy. This is a very important field and its role of importance in education increases year by year. To many, history sounds dull, but with all the new equip- ment and trips, it isn't. Coach Larry Williams and Mr. John McAdams are the teachers. Music and Driver Education The choir at Kennedy performs at all occasions that we have at the school. Mrs. Vick taught us to sing a dif- ferent tune in every melody. The driver education course teaches beginning drivers the skills and techniques of being safe drivers. Mrs. Truelove is the instructor. Modern Mafh Breeds Confusion Math is becoming important in todays fast growing world. To keep up with todays advanced technology, Kennedy offers modern math. Algebra I and II, and geometry. These math courses are taught by Mr. Terry Dillard and Coach Don Thornton. 18 Space Age Brings Many Changes to Science Science is a vital and necessary development in business fields of today. Kennedy High School of- fers courses in general science and biology. The students are taught a general course in health and some modern scientific methods. Science is taught by Mrs. Mildred Truelove and biology by Mr. Terry Dillard. 19 Shakespearean Plays Create a Mood of Excitement To be or not to be, as said in Hamlet, is expressed in the field of English Literature at Kennedy. Shakespeare's importance in the world of English today is superior to that of any other English writer. Senior High English is taught by Mrs. Yvlette Savage and Junior High by Mrs. Ellen McAdams. Addition of Speech Improves Curriculum This was the first year that speech has been offered at Kennedy. It proved to be a favorite among many stu- dents. Included in the speech curriculum were plays, storytelling, choral reading, and of course the writing and presenting of speeches. This subject was taught by Mrs. Ellen McAdams. Our Vocational Subjects 22 The Home Ec. girls learned many new skills that will aid them in later years as a homemaker. They learned how to sew, cook, manage a budget, and keep things tidy and clean. As a project this year, the Sr. High girls covered the office sofa. These skills and techniques were demonstrated by Mrs. Bernice Bryant. Fitness Is Essential for the Future Not only does P.E. provide needed exercise for boys and girls but it also pro- vides many hours of enjoyment. This year's classes were taught by Mrs. Laudice Junkins. Coach Larry Williams, and Coach Don Thornton. Business Education At Kennedy High this year both typing and bookkeep- ing are offered. Both are a vital skill in many of today's jobs and this is one of the many reasons they are taught at Kennedy. These courses are taught by Mrs. Jacqueline Hughes, who is teaching at Kennedy for the first time this year. Staff 1. W. L. Trull Esther Owens Charles Foster M. L. Wilson Troy Prater Bill Bittle 2.
