Kennedy High School Kennedy, Alabama No one can live in the world today as they are. For the world is ever changing, and people must change with it. So to keep up with the world Kennedy High School is changing and improving. In the following pages are a brief summary of the changes made this year. We feel that more than ever, this year has been. . . . The Year of Change Have you seen the new video tape thing ... Lets go watch them work on the new gym ... Have they started on the new library yet ... How do you like the new English program ... Hey, we won a baseball trophy ... st ude n Curriculum Organizations Athletics Favorites Advertisers FACULTY As Kennedy High School expands so do the responsibilities of its princi- pal. These exceeding responsi- bilities are handled each year by Mr. McGee with a way that is all his own. No matter how bogged down in school business he be- comes, he always has a friendly word to share with his students. Typing Typing is a class enjoyed at Ken- nedy. Each year the typewriters began to click, and each person is setting a goal and trying very hard to meet it. When mistakes are made the eraser is passed and this procedure continues for an hour every day. Typing is a use- ful skill necessary for many jobs, that's one of the many reasons it is taught at Kennedy High School. English This year we continued the new English program. Each week we wrote journals and had a free read- ing period. Group book reports were given during the year along with filmstrips pertaining to books we had read. The English program was county wide. They decided to let each school make a magazine contain- ing a variety of writings by the students. Our magazine won second place. To prepare our students of further education many different types of math were taught this year at Kennedy. Many hours were spent solving math problems and learn- ing new methods to equip them for future life. In general math not only teaches the student to think, but also pre- pares him for any kind of problem solving in later life. History History has been an educational subject for all the students who were enrolled in the classes. Dur- ing the year the following trips were taken; one group went to moundville to explore the huge mounds and view the remains of ancient man. Another group visited Natural Bridge and Rickwood Caverns. This trip was connected with the World History Class during the year. Montogomery was the last place visited by students from Kennedy. This group toured the State Capital, which included going through the House of Representatives and House of Senate while in progress passing and vetoing bills. Besides going on these trips the students learned more about our country and the events taking place at the present time. Science Scientific research will pave the way for the future development in practically every business field in America today. That's why Kennedy High School offers General Science and Biology as required courses of study. The Home Ec. girls spent much of their time cooking and sewing. During the year they prepared three meals for themselves. They also learn how to manage a budget which will aid them in later life. Home Economics Agriculture During the year this group won the following events in FFA, FirstTlace County Speak- ing, First Place County Livestock Judging, County Dairy Judging, Third Place County Land Judging. District Dairy Judging Fourth Place, Livestock Judging Third Place. Music To appreciate music means, partly to feel happiness and pleasure in the sound of the music. Just to listen isn't enough for many people. At Kennedy we study the symphony pieces, along with the composers that wrote them. The class was the scene of entertainment many times during the year. Some of the performances were made on Career Day, Christmas, and at Vernon. Drivers Education A course in drivers education was offered for the first time at Kennedy this year. This course is designed to teach beginning drivers the skills and techniques of safe driving habits. These skills were taught on the road in the new drivers ed. car, as well as in the class room. Dedication Because she has worked for and with us, because she has given generously of her time and wisdom - words are a poor substitute with which to express our sincere respect and admiration for this woman.
