KENALA 1966 KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL KENNEDY, ALABAMA RILEY McGEE The job of being principal of a high school is a big responsibility. Constantly there is someone calling upon him for help. There are many other duties that keep him busy. Many other men are able to fill the position of principal of a high school, but there are few able to face each day the way ours does. He is always in a good humor and willing to help anyone. Mr. McGee received his B.S. degree from Livingston State and his Master’s degree from the University of Alabama. S 5 hurrying steps, closing doors, ringing bells . . . Our minds are tested . . . The day begins . . . an effort failed . . . a goal attained . . . the day is done . . . the questioning mind rests. As a new project for this year's activities, the science classes pre- sented a science fair. Each student worked very hard to complete a project. Pictured on this page are the winners. As one of next year's improve- ments, Kennedy High School will have a new Science Department. 8 Mrs. J. C. McAdams Coach Billy Briggs LEARNING THE PAST FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE FUTURE. Through the years we have learned that by observing the mistakes of others, we can avoid making the same ones again ourselves. A group of students dressed dolls to rep- resent the peoples of nations over the world. Boys in the same class built a glass panel case for displaying the dolls. Mrs. J. C. McAdams and Coach Billy Briggs taught social studies this year. 9 cp A Mrs. Fred Savage ENGLISH Do you ever stop to think before saying a word. Just how much learning goes into your ability to speak correctly. A youngster begins to talk as he be- gins to understand words being said to him. Almost everyone is able to talk, but the ability to speak cor- rectly comes only with study and work. Mrs. Fred Savage and Mrs. Ellen McAdams teach English at Kennedy. Each required their students to do a project this year. 10 EQUATIONS, PROOFS, AND GRAPHS These three words, equations, proofs, and graphs prove answers for many of our questions. Math is one of the most impor- tant courses we may take in high school. It is one thing you will use every day. Our math department received a new overhead projector which is very useful and labor saving for our teacher. Mrs. Peggy Davis, a Florence State Col- lege graduate, taught math this year. I I STUDENTS LEARN AND DEVELOP We have really worked in home economics class this year. The Seniors covered a chair and sofa for the department. As another proj- ect we repainted the girls' restroom. Another class made new curtains for the lunchroom. During the last half of the year each student participated in a fash- ion show presented for the P.T.A. SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES Developing your skills and tech- niques is not as simple as it may sound. Many times it requires long hours of trial and error. The vo- cational agriculture, students are always building things, repairing, or just cleaning up around our cam- pus. They help to keep our cam- pus in very good condition. These students, under the direc- tion of Mr. Martin Karr did an ex- cellent job of painting wall plaques representing the different clubs of our school. 13 THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THE FIT. The future belongs to the fit. This well known quote is an excellent descrip- tion of the world's state. The future does belong to the fit. Mrs. Laudice Junkins organized a new P.E. program. It included a series of phys- ical exercises and written tests. 4 MUSIC Music seems to be understandable to peo- ple of all lands. Each one of us sometimes catch ourself humming a tune. Mrs. Elizabeth Vick, our music teacher, taught us to sing the three other parts of a song along with the melody. READING Reading is a way to tour the world from your own living room. You can learn about people, cities, books, clothing and many other things by reading books. Reading is also an excellent way to increase your vo- cabulary and your understanding of words. The reading teacher who came to Ken- nedy the last half of this year was Mrs. Betty Kitchens. ATHLETICS i it BILLY RAY BRIGGS AN OUTSTANDING MAN, BOTH AS A COACH AND AS A TEACHER He graduated from Mississippi State where he re- ceived his B. S. degree with a major in P. E. and a minor in Social Studies. 18 FOOTBALL Football at Kennedy this year, if you look at the record, was unsuccessful, but like boys on losing teams everywhere we were very successful. We learned to take the good with the bad, and to take it like men. Our situation was pretty well summed up at the athletic banquet when it was said: Any- one can play when you are winning, but it takes a man to play when you are losing”. We could take our defeats, because we were learning from them, and we knew that some day we would put this experience and knowledge to use to come out winners.
