m-' Published by Senior Class of 1962 Kennedy High School Kennedy, Alabama FOkEUORD As the school year passes , we pause to catch a final glimpse of everything we have done. Our classmates, friends, and teachers have all played a part in this school term. We have attempted to preserve the memories through word and picture. You, the students of Kennedy High School made it; you lived it. Here it is—the 1962 YELLOWJACKET The Annual Staff 1961-1962 DE D ICKTIOIi V ith grateful appreciation we dedicate our annual to our Mothers and Fathers, who have been our guide through the years. MESSA E Seniors: I want to take this opportunity to tell you that it has been a pleasure working with you these three years. You have a wonderful yearbook—one that you will certainly be proud of in later years. The spirit of Kennedy High School has been evident in your class. You have accomplished many feats in the past years, both scholastically and athletic. Some of these feats were against great odds. You have proved that it doesn’t take a large school to be a good school. BEST OF LUCK IN THE FUTURE. Instructions from the boss. Flirting On April 21, 1961 the Junior Class entertained the Senior Class with a Ban- quet at the High School Auditorium. The theme was An Evening in Paris, and was carried out in program, entertainment, and decoration. The Junior Class especially enjoyed making the plans and decorating for the occasion. A street scene in Gay Paree with sidewalk Cafes, French artists, the Effel Tower, a flower Vendor, and costumes of The Chefs and waitresses who sang French Songs contributed to Parisian theme. Favors of miniature towers, charnpayne poppers, perfume and corsages added further emphasis. The Junior Class President, Gail Newman, welcomed the group. The resronse was given by ’' illiam Davis, the Senior Class President. Howard Prater, portray- ing a French radio Commentator, and Viss Inez Douglass, reading the headlines from a Paris Newspaper, added to the merriment ofthe guest. ’’Au Revoir by Carol Jones concluded the program. 'amsoiK ET SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Tn 1950-1951, forty children with-out our front teeth entered the two first grides of Kennedy High School. One group was repeaters and the other beginners. Krs. Rae Hayes and Kiss Frock took us under their wings to guide and direct us through the first important step of our education. ’ e have thirteen of that group that have gone al] the way through high school together. They are: Carol Jones, Olivia Walker, Oail Newman, Frenda Jones, Dorsey Kell Owens, Karilyn Sherrill, Barbara Trull Henri Jane Plyler, Larry land, Howard Prater, Edward Hunnicutt, Roy Banks P.raham and Bobby Joe Wheeler, Vie had a hard tire ler rning to read, and adjusting ourselves to the rules of school. I remember selling apnles in the hall, to the high school students. Tn the second grade, the two first grades were combined, with Krs. Willena Davis to guide us. We learned to read the thermometer and keep up with the weather. Krs. Junkins was teaching physical education when were in elementary school. While some of us were reading, others had physical education. I guess this was the only thing that made it possible for Krs. Davis to stay with all forty of us. This year Bobby Aldridge and Christine Aldridge became members of our class. Cur teacher in the third grade, Krs. Lydia Plyler, taught us to change our print- ing to writing. Vie had the pleasure of having a fair and making a film of our fair activities. We all learned to do the 1‘inuet in G very gracefully. Tn the fourth grade, Krs. Janet Williams taught us to multiply and do long division. Vre also studied our own state of Alabama. Krs. Blanche Hydrick, in the fifth grade, made an extensive study of the United States. Vie had lots of fun making U.S. scrap books. Tn the sixth grade, with Krs. Pee Hayes, it was like getting back home, because this was our second year with her. Vie broadened our understanding of geography by studying all of North and South America. l'iss Inez Douglass helped us through the trying seventh grade year. Vie had a hard tine adjusting ourselves to changing rooms for each class and keeping up with our books. Cois Aldridge become a member of our class this year. I wonder how the teachers ever got forty of us to listen to them? They will probably tell us they couldn't get us to listen. By the eighth grade, with Nr. N. E. Karr as our sponsor, we were becoming more accustomed to high school and liking it more each day, though T won't say we were making better grades. This year we lost a few of our classmates, but we gained Buddy Bradford. When we became Freshmen, with Coach Billy Joe Colvin, as our sponsor, we then had the honor of participating in Senior High activities. This meant our history trips to Nontgomery and Koundville. There was ’lots of work for us, making enough money for the trios. Eut we will all tell you the trips were worth all the work and even more. The boys entered F.F.A. and the girls entered F.B.A., with an initiation we will never for- get. The boys began trying to letter in athletics and we were all trying to make grides high enough to become Beta Club members. Krs. Laudice Junkins was our sponsor for the first semester of our Sophomore year, but she had to leave for a blessed event. Therefore, Krs. Yvlette Savage become our dedicated sponsor through our Senior year. Our class served at the Junior-Senior Banquet except for a few lucky people who were invited. This year we lost Shirley Taylor, who had been with us only one year, also Nancy Nitchell and Sandra Taylor. We began our Junior year with the seventeen classmates and Krs. vvlette Savage. We knew we had many new tasks this year, so we all began working very hard. V’e had many new experiences, lots of work and great deal of pleasure. We all h%d a hard time learning our parts for the play, just to go out on the stage the night of the play and forget them, because of stage fright. But we had the most fun decorating for our banquet, An Evening in Paris. We worked so hard we couldn't enjov the food and entertainment that night. Tn the spring, we elected the Annual Staff, so we could began our work on the annual in fall of our Senior year. Our greatest endeavor this year was working together on our annual with Krs. Savage directing us. As an Annual Staff, we learned to solve many of our difficulties, and hqve a better understanding of eqch other. We will always remember ourselves as the 17 of '62 at Kennedy High School. SENIOR CLASS WILL We the Senior Class of 1962, upon graduating, leave our last will and testament as follow: Bobby Aldridge leaves his position as All-Conference football player and All-State to anyone who can fill it. Brenda Jones just wants to leave period. Larry Land leaves his courting in the hall to Harry Vice. Christine Aldridge leaves her frank opinion to Martha Rushing. Howard Prater leaves his mischievous ways to Bobby McDaniel. Bobby Joe Wheeler leaves his love for cars to Eugene Foster. Buddy Bradford leaves his wise cracks to Donald Champion. Olivia Walker leaves her ways of flirting to Carolyn Porter. Roy Banks Graham leaves his sneaky ways to Tommy Ayers. Henri Jane Plyler leaves her desire for one boy only to Patsy Lindsey. Edward Hunnicutt leaves his map of Vernon to Billy Wayne Cargile. Cois Aldridge leaves his position as left guard to anyone who is big and mean enough to fill it. Dorsey Nell Owens leaves her love for Chevrolets to Janice Weathers. Marilyn Sherrill leaves her steady ways to Freddy Taylor. Gail Newman leaves her sweet ways to Gail Gilpin. Barbara Trull leaves her ability to have a smooth love-affair to Vicky Junkins. And as for me, I leave with sincere wishes for all the classes that follow us. Class Testator SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY One day as I was daydreaming in Mrs. Savage's English class, I saw each member of my Senior class as they will be ten years from now. Carol Jones is secretary for Tim's Cleaners of Fayette. Bobby Aldridge is on the basketball team with the Harlem Globe Trotters. Larry Land, a retired History teacher, has taken up farming. Edward Hunnicutt, owner of LVLK radio station, is thinking of moving it to Vernon or Kennedy, Henri Jane Plyler is chasing f 1970 model G.M.C. pickup with a 50 model Pontiac. Marilyn Sherrill is salesmanaj er of Reese £. Bobo Auto Sales of Kennedy. Gail Newman is a Housekeeper living between Belk and Covin. Cois Aldridge has joined the Vrmy to support A little Aldridges. Dorsey Nell Owens is helping run a fish pond near Fernbank. Brenda Jones is now owner of the Metrecal plant since she has lost so much weight. Christine Aldridge is learning more history each day since she has been talking about it so much with one of those Palmetto boys. Howard Prater is working in the Garment plant at Sulligent in order to be close to someone. Buddy Bradford is playing end for the Washington Redskins. Roy Banks Graham is taking top honors in Go-Kart Racing. Barbara Trull is running the Kennedy Beauty shop when she can get someone to keep the little Cobb children. Olivia Walker is still having trouble with her boy friends. Just as I was about to see myself Mrs. Savage interrupted my thoughts.
