Miss Laudlce Holsonback, now Mrs. Laudlce Junklns was our first teacher. Entering second grade, we left a few of our classmates back In the first grade and were joined by others, John Billy Cooper, C.L. Gilliam and Jimmy Nabors. Later in the year Doug Weathers came from Millport to join our class. In the third grade we were under Mrs. Lydia Plyler. We all worked hard toward the fair, Travis Prater entered our class that year. In the upper elementary grades we were under Mrs. Williams, fourth grade; Mrs. Hydrick, fifth grade; and Mrs. Hayes, sixth grade. Mrs. Savage started us off in high school by being our sponsor. Cynthia Vice left us in the seventh grade but returned Jn the eighth grade. The ninth grade was an exciting year for all of us, with Coach Page as our sponsor. During the year we took two trips, one to Montgomery for two and one half days and the second to Natural Bridge, Ava Maria Grotto and Rickwood Caverns. Our class here gained Norris McDaniel and from Belk school the following: Jeanette Dawkins, Earbara Ann Ivy, Mary Sue Gilreath, Virginia Foster, and Mary Frances Fowler. However, we lost Adine Owens and Virginia Owens. In the tenth grade, Mrs. Evelyn Davis was our sponsor. We added to our group, Robert Owens, Billy Ruth Watkins, Konney Larwood, Jimmy Carrell, Donald Porter, Vernie Stripling, and Aline Campbell. We lost Kathleen Sparks, Mary Frances Fowler, Donald Porter, Billy Ruth Watkins and Mary Sue Gilreath. In the eleventh grade our big objective was the Jr. - Sr. Banquet, which was executed under the direction of Miss Hammond, our sponsor. From our ranks we lost Jimmy Carrell, Virginia Foster, and Jeanette Dawkins. Our Senior year will soon be past history. It has been a year filled with pleasurable associations, satisfaction in problems solved, and goals reached under the direction of our sponsor, Mrs. McAdams. Our big endeavor, but one enjoyed, has been working together on our Annual. Of the twenty four who are finishing there are only thirteen of the original number. These are: William Davis, Eugene Davis, Elaine Crawley, Charles Davis, Gene Ray Taylor, James Crowley, Murel Nabors, DeOttis Porter, Betty Baty, Veronia Prater, Arnold McDaniel, Sandra Long, and Cynthia Vice, We will always remember our school days at good old Kennedy High School. Class Historian, SENIOR CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of 1961, who are about to leave Kennedy High School, and being mindful of the needs of our fellow students we leave here to take our places, we make the following bequests: Betty Baty leaves her hopes that no one will lose his class ring while washing cars. Elaine Crawley leaves her fine recipe for cornbread to Henri Jane Plyler. Murel Nabors leaves her trim, slim figure to Christine Aldridge. Aline Campbell leaves her shy ways of flirting with the boys to Carol Jones. Cynthia Vice leaves her way of courting in the hall to Vicky Junkins. Sandra Long leaves her successfulness in school to Gail Newman. Veronia Prater leaves her waiting on her boy friend to Barbara Trull. Arnold McDaniel leaves his ability to travel the road to Vernon to anyone who can take it as well as he has. John Billy Cooper leaves his privilege of getting married while in school to John D. Dollar. James Crowley leaves his position as tackle to Billy Wayne Cargile. Charles Davis leaves his ability to preside at Beta Club meetings to anyone who can fill it. Eugene Davis leaves his sneaking into football games to Gary Crowley. William Davis leaves his shy ways to Larry Land. C.L. Gilliam leaves his showing out on a motorcycle to Buddy Bradford. Konney Larwood leaves his long curls to Paul Nolen. Norris McDaniel says he just wants to leave—fourteen years is enough for anyone. Jimmy Nabors leaves his pisition as All-Conference football player to any one that can fill it, which is doubtful. Robert Owens leaves his beating on the girls to Bobby Aldridge. Travis Prater leaves his cowboy boots to anyone that can grow feet big enough to fit them. Vernie Stripling leaves to take care of the Mrs. DeOttis Porter leaves his mathematical ability to Jerry Crowe. Gene Ray Taylor leaves his neat appearance to Howard Prater. Douglas Weathers leaves his sleeping late to Harry Vice. Barbara Ann Ivy leaves her big mouth and tom-boy ways to Brenda Newman. We all leave with sincere best wishes for our teachers and fellow students. Class Testators, fi ; tLJ SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Fortuna, goddess of destiny, I whispered, let me look into the future, I couldn't believe it was true, when a beautiful figure appeared before me and said, Look into my eyes and you shall see all. The things I saw greatly amazed me, as I saw all my old classmates like always, happy. I saw Arnold McDaniel as he finished his third great movie All the actresses were begging for his autograph. I saw Barbara Ann Ivy as her plane landed in New York. She is a beautiful stewardess for T.W.A. Her tall handsome husband-to-be was waiting for her. Douglas Weathers was just finishing one of his great movies. He played as pluto in Popeye. Murel Nabors was playing as Olive with him. Elaine Cralley was out riding in her shiny new convertible. I think she was going to Sulligent. Norris McDaniel was sitting all by himself In a sleek new car. He was parked in front of the National Guard Armory, reliving all his old experiences. He is now Mayor of Vernon. Davis Construction Co. had just hired Sandra Long as Interior Decorator. Her boss, Mr. Charles Davis III, is still a confirmed bachelor. William Davis was a famous short stop for the New York Yankees. Cynthia Vice was cooking dinner for someone in a cute little cottage near Belk. Eugene Davis was out riding with about six girls from New Hope. Betty Baty had just returned from a trip to Paris. She had been elected Queen for A Day. C.L. Gilliam was styling some beautiful girl's hair in the Gilliam Beauty Salon In Kennedy. Aline Campbell had just won a beauty contest and was now preparing to enter the Miss America Contest. James Crowley was a famous tackle for The Washington Redskins. Konney Larwood was leaving New York after one of his famous concerts. The girls mobbed him. They thought he was Jerry Lee Lewis. Vernie Stripling was manager of Gardner's Chain Store in Selk. DeOttis Porter is President of Wyerhaeuser buses. He has persuaded them to change from Chevrolets to Internationals. Jimmy Nabors is in a big service station business with his short wife as his secretary. John Billy Cooper was feeding three little blonde headed girls while his Jeanette worked at Lamar Manufacturing Company. Travis Prater is still impossible, but he has recorded a sweet little ballad called Red River Valley. Robert Owens now owns a thousand acre farm near Oak Ridge. He hasn't made up his mind whether he is ever going to marry or not. Then faintly I see a group of pretty girls surrounding a car - at the wheel - why it's Gene Ray, and he's holding Gene Ray, Jr. for the girls to admire. We wonder how he decided to settle down to one girl. As for me, well I'm just a pawn of fate. I can't see myself in the future. Class Prophet, Yet, fair as thou art. thou shunnest to glide.
