Our first grade teacher. Miss Angelyn Johnson, did a fine job of teaching us spelling, reading and arithmetic. We couldn't understand why our lower elementary teachers insisted on our eating all our food and taking our daily rest period. We went through grammar school rapidly, growing each year physically, mentally, and Spiritually. Our sponsor, Mrs. Yvlette Savage, was also our fourth grade teacher. At that time none of us realized that she would be the one to sponsor through our junior and senior years. In the fourth grade we lost Gwendola Black and gained Conner Spencer, Virginis Howton, and Landon Prater. Finally we entered high school all confused and frightened. Our sponsor, Mrs. J.C. Richardson, and our new principal, Mr. Charles P. Hayes made it easier for us. In the seventh grade we lost Patricia Davis and gained Shirley Simms. Coach Carpenter was our eignth grade sponsor. This year we lost Shirley Plyler, Ray Barrett, Roberta Richardson, and Eline Thornton. Ask Roberta what she remembers about the eighth grade. In the ninth grade we entered Home Economics and Agriculture. This was one of our happiest school years since our subjects did much to prepare us for future life. This year we lost Mavis Foster. In the tenth grade we really began to feel important because we could see the end nearing. We lost Mavis Baswell and gained Eleanor Faulkner, Colon Cork, and Earl Goree this year. The eleventh grade was one of the best years of our whole school life. We'll never forget our class play, Papa Says No and what a day when we made preparations for our Junior-Senior Banquet entitled April Showers . Mozell Carroll, Mary Wright, and Raymond Watkins became one of the blanch this year. Evelyn Bradford jumped on up to finish a year ahead of us. We lost Ethel Porter through Matrimony. The fall of Sb brought us to our Senior year and the privilege of having Mrs. Savage for our sponsor. Ruth Crowley and Nell Blaylock joined us this year. We lost Mary Wright and Sidney Holliman. This year has been filled with excitment and loads of work but we realize it all goes along with being a senior. Although the way has been long and difficult we know it has payed off for at last we are Seniors lllli Laudeen Owens Class Historian Last Will and Testament We the Seniors of 1955 leave to Mr. Charles P. Hayes, Mrs. Yvlette Savage, and the faculty our sincere appreciation for their patience and guidance. To the students of Kennedy High School we leave our last will and testament. To Martha McDaniel, Virginia Howton leaves her position of worker in the lunchroom and her title of Best all Around to Gay Crowe. Pay Vice leaves to Bobby Porter his ability to pet married. To James Owens, Joe Moore leaves his place as Editor of the Annual. Laudeen Owens leaves her position as a leader to Margaret Poster and her sweet ways to Ruby Lee Gilliam. Glen Holsonback leaves to Lamond Ivey his place as Secretary of the Senior Class. Clara Jean Stripling is entitled to Eleanor Faulkner's free lessons on writing air mail letters and to Betty Jean Carroll, Eleanor leaves her Christian attitude. Colon Cork leaves to Lynn Aldridge his lazy ways. Mozell Carroll leaves her place as Reporter of the Senior Class to Carolyn Caraway, and her smile to Ella weese Holsonback. Landon Prater leaves his ability to have fun in class to Britt Duke. To James Foster, Conner Spencer leaves his nice ways. Faye Hunnicutt leaves her quiet ways to Evelyn Johnson and Bobbie Williams and to Iva Jean Gardner she leaves her ability to play the piano. To Owel Newman, Lefoy Gilliam leaves his place working for Mr. Karr in the F.F.A. store. Jane Crowley leaves to Virginia Rushing her mischevious ways and her willingness to help someone to Billie Mae Stembridge. Mary Jo Porter leaves to Dollie Mae Gilliam her place as boss of the class and her knowledge of Millport to Doris Wilson. Brooks Atkins leaves his polite ways to Charles Freeman. To Wayne Tomlin, Donald Gilliam leaves his mischevious ways. Puth Crowley leaves her place as most popular to Faye Stembridge and her friendly ways to Carol Ann Taylor. Raymond Watkins leaves his place as cheerleader to Harvey Collins. To Sue Moore, Nell Blaylock leaves friendly ways and her job punchinr lunchroom tickets to Martha Crowley. Jimmy Holsonback leaves his position on the football team to Marvin Wheeler and his horse and buggy to Jerry Lynn Kabors. Bobby Crowley leaves his friendly ways to Jerry Moore. Tc Rachel Long, Mary Jo Porter leaves her ability to argue. Grafton Sparks leaves his wittiness to Troy Porter. Joe Moore leaves to Owel Newman his ability to run the class. To Theo Taylor, Joe Moore and Ray Vice leave their places in the Glee Club. Class Lawyer Faye Hunnicutt Class Prophecy of 55 As I, Glen Holsonback, was looking in the Chrystal Ball I saw the future of the '55 Seniors. Listen .and I shall reveal to you what they are doing. I now see Laudeen Owens teaching English, I wonder where?? Could it be Millport? Who could that be with those twin babies? Why, I should have known, none other than Ray Vice. Papa. What is the latest news? Jane Crowley, who is a stenographer is engaged to her handsome boss. Who would have thought of that? Not me . ’i ho is that handsome pilot walking down the street? None other than Conner Spencer. Wonder where all the good looking girls are now. '-Jhat a pretty little dream house, wonder who the little housewife is? I should have known, Mary Jo Porter. I now see Brooks Atkins living happily with his wife and three children on a farm near the Big City of Kennedy, Alabama. If you ever want to find Virginia Hoxvton, go to the Nurses Dormitory at the Druid City Hospital, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I now see Faye Hunnicutt working as a secretary in the First National Bank of Birmingham, Alabama. Lefoy Gilliam is now taking Mr. Karr's place as Agriculture Teacher at Kennedy High School. 'Wonder who Mr. Hayes's new brother-in-law is, none other than Joe Moore. I now see Eleanor Faulkner, a nurse in Columbus. She is waiting for her boy- friend to come home. Mozell Carroll is now taking Marilyn Monroe's place as Most Beautiful movie star in Hollywood. Let's go to the movies. Jimmy Holsonback is happily married to Ella Weese Taylor. They are planning to raise a football team. Colon Cork has his own Quartette at Belk, Alabama including his piano player Iva Jean Gardner. Nell Blaylock is now the president of the C.I.O. in Birmingham, Alabama. I wonder if she would give me a job. I now see Grafton Sparks still doing nothing, As Usual But I think he is planning to join the Air Force if they will have him. Donald Gilliam is still as mean as he ever was but the last time I heard from him he was making a preacher. Now we will have to get used to Preacher Gilliam! Bobby Crowley is visiting his brother-in-law at the White House in Washington-1 think he wants to be elected Vice President, If he does I am sorry ror tne poor world. Since Ruth Crowley is attending Business College in Birmingham, she doesn't have any cane and peanut patches to get into. Wonder what she is getting into now?? Is it matrimony with her tall, dark and handsome boss? Let's ask her about It. Landon Prater is now making straight A's at the University of Alabama. I wonder how he does it? Let's ask his girlfriend, I bet she knows. Glen Holsonback is running the Bank of Kennedy . I think they are starting a new bank since the old one is full of money. Raymond Watkins is now Head Cheerleader for the Alabama Crimson Tide. I think the other cheerleaders are from Kennedy too.
