History The worst thing that has ever happened to Kennedy School was when they took the little first graders of 19I+I. This was a tough year for Miss Angelyn Johnson, our first grade teacher. In the first grade there were thirty-five members in our class. Our first six years went by smooth and rapidly and gradually our class In- creased. ?.'e were always glad to welcome new members but It was sad to bid others good-bye. On the day we graduated from elementary to high school, we had forty-two members in our class. We found it very hard to adjust ourselves to high school life, which was so different to the life we had known before. Upon becoming freshmen we gained several privileges that we had not known before. During this year we enjoyed taking home economics and agriculture with Miss Annie Mary Hester and Mr. E. M. Baker as our teachers, whom we love and still cherish so much. t flng °U 3°Phorn°re year we pained two members to our class. Joan Wilson and Steve Barns. We are fortunate to still have Tommy Hysaw with us. In the fall of 52 we became Seniors at last ! We were very fortunate to have Mrs. Fred Richards as our sponsor. This year we have only eighteen members to graduate. Only nine members of the original class have gone through the twelve years together: Clara Jean Moore, Ethel Trull, Frances Crowley, Virginia Stembridge, Lois biggins, Helen Sherrill, Sylvia Foster, Mary Davis and Copeland Nabors. Had all of our class continued through the tv elve years, we would have had seventy-eight members to graduate. Our journey was sometimes hard to trod but always filled with fun'. Csllcutuu Class Prophecy As I sit here in the twilight I see visions. Visions of what I Why i none other than the Seniors of •53. Sh------listen as I reveal them to you as they come to me one by one. First, I see Ottis Johnson as a famous comedian on the Jack Benny program heard on CBS each Sunday night at 6r00 o’clock. He has been twenty years old for the past five years. I see Tommy Hysaw relying on the money Faith, his wife, is making singing on Club 15 each night. If you are ever in Washington stop by the President’s Mansion and visit Mr. John Michael Cline who for several years was a very prominent leader in polit- ical affairs and Republican President of the United States. Grace Bohannon, in spite of her shy ways, has finally succeeded in catching her childhood sweetheart in the Web of Matrimony. They are now making their home in Covin, Alabama and making a success raising ducks. I see an old maid who is a very successful nurse in the Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is none other than Sylvia Foster. I see in the Art Galleries of New York some fine paintings by Joan Wilson. It was in this career that she met her long searched for husband who is also a painter. Mary Davis is assisting her husband in the White House Clara Jean Moore is making straight A’s at the University of Alabama. She is majoring in home economics. I see Ethel Trull placing a long distance telephone call to her boy friend. She does this quite often since she is switch board operator at the Bell Telephone Company in Columbus, Mississippi. I see Lois Wiggins and her husband, who is a hillbilly singer, making a hit in Hollywood along with their children. The long distance operator for the Bell Telephone Company in Birmingham, Alabama is none other than I Yes I you guessed it Gaylor Moore. The new coach for the Crimson Tides is none other than Jerry Jones. Helen Sherrill is secretary for a very wealthy man and his son. No, wait p minute she has just eloped with the son. Copeland Nabors is a famous player on the Auburn Tigers football team. After several years in the Navy, Steve Barnes and Jack Davis are now com- manders . Virginia Stembridge is now happily married to a sailor husband. He is out of the Navy now and they are living in Birmingham where both are employed. After working for five years as a model, Frances Crawley finally succeeded in talking her boss into saying marriage vows. They are now living in New York. Will We, the Senior Class of 1953r hereby dedicate our last will and testament to the student body of Kennedy High School. Tommy Hysaw leaves to Franklin Cash and Tommy Jack McDaniel his ability to play table tennis. Helen Sherrill leaves to Marie Owens her ability to carry on office work for Mr. Hayes. Also, to Stillman Johnson, her ability to get along with the teachers. Copeland Nabors leaves his ability to play tackle to Jack Crawley and Richard Moore. Virginia Stembridge leaves her sympathy to Lydia Prater as Secretary of the Senior Class. Steve Barns leaves his map of Coty Community to Arlie Foster. Mike Cline leaves to Benard Leonard his ability as a football punter To Pat Cline, Joan Wilson leaves her ability of quitness in class. To Wynene Moore, Mary Davis leaves her place as head cheerleader. Gaylor Moore leaves her ability on how to catch a sailor to Mary Hellen Johnson. Ethel Trull leaves to Clemmie Bea Goree her knowledge of getting along with the classmates. To Noel Carroll, Jack Davis leaves his manager's place if he can fill it. To Gladys Foster, Lois Wiggins leaves her friendly disposition. Grace Bohannon leaves her shyness to Pervy Carroll- Sylvla Foster leaves her sweet personality and knowledge of school work to Deloyd Leonard. Frances Crawley leaves her place as Miss Kennedy High to Mary Lynn Watkins. Ottis Johnson leaves his coon dogs to C. B. Lindsey and Crawford McDaniel. To Dan Tomlin, Jerry Jones leaves hi3 left half back position. Clara Jean Moore leaves her ability to make good grades to Harlon Johnson and Artis Lee Newman. most Popular PHost IT) sc hie vou.s STioip-nq-S soUX ALL HOME ROOM TEACHERS We the Senior Class of '53 wish to express our gratitude and appreciation to the men and women who guided us through the twelve short years of grammar and high school.
