This club pro- vides time, once a week during zero period, for students interested in chess to play against each other and improve their chess skills. All students interest- ed are invited to join the club. Cheerleaders It takes a lot of dedication to be a Kennedy cheer- leader. The cheerleaders practice daily at zero period during football and basketball season. The cheerlead- ers also give up time after school to cheer at football and basketball games. To be a cheerleader you must have all passing grades at the time of try-outs and while your on the squad. Try-outs are usually held in early spring. 34 Advanced Mixed Chorus The Kennedy Advanced Mixed Chorus is made up of some of Kennedy's most talented people. Each year the chorus performs at Christmas and spring con- certs. At Christmas time the chorus per- forms at the Art Institute of Chicago, Christopher School, and also here at Ken- nedy. In the spring the chorus performs here at Kennedy at an evening concert with the concert and jazz bands, To join the Advanced Chorus first one year of Beginning Chorus must be taken. In Beginning Chorus, sight reading, key signatures, and note values are taught by the choral director, Mr. Woodrow Hill. Participating in the Advanced Chorus re- quires the member to give up after school time for rehearsals before concerts. In ad- dition, members participate in the annual fund raiser, usually an M 8: M sale for the organization.
