Eighth grade, seeing us one year's experience at Kennard-Dale was kicked off by a Halloween Party. The class was also taken to Harrisbiir t t d g o s u y our state s history. In February, we sponsored a Valentine's Day Dance N. . . . mth grade brought few activities for us. We had our first experience in building a float. Even though it was a disaster and received last place, we had a fun time working on it. Tenth grade brought more good times Our float featuring Snoo . py was a big success. Class pins took on a new style and many people ordered them D t ' d ' e ermine not to be short of funds as seniors, we sponsored a bike raffle. The ring committee designed a new ring, ordered at the beginning of our junior year. A ay Again, featuring Midnight Express. Among our other accomplishments, We held a very successful sub sale and won first place with our class float in the Homecoming parade. The Class of '77 was the first class to enter its senior year with a large b k ' ' an account. As Seniors, we faced many conflicts about our class trip and our class projects As seniors we overcame our robl d . , p ems, or ered our commencement announcements, and looked forward to our futures Looking back upon our six years at Kennard-Dale our experiences ha , ve been a significant part of our lives. We will cherish the moments the events, d th an e people which have influenced us in our years at Kennard-Dale. s Juniors, we hosted the Prom entitled We May Never Pass This W Kathy Clark Historian Class Enrollment: 119 Class Colors: Mint Green and Dark Green Class Flower' White Rose With Mint G B - reen aby's Breath Class Motto: To th ' ' ' ' ' ge er we started this Journey: as 1nd1v1duals we face the world. Another foreign student, John Wagner, came here from West Germany to live with relatives and attend school. We, the staff, asked them to write about their first impressions of our school, students, and faculty. When I first came to the United States, I was surprised by the many differences between the German and the American schools. In America the ,school day is longer, there is no school ori:Satur- days, and the relationship between the teachers and students is different. The atmosphere is more friendly and personal than it is in Germany. After a month, I became accustomed to the changes found them very pleasing. I Another thing that has made my being here 82 more comfortable is the fantastic people at Kennard-Dale. Since Kennard-Dale is a relatively small school, in a short time I came to know most ' of the students. They all are very friendly land helped me to find my way through the unfamiliar new world. s The teachers helped me very generously with I my problems. They were always ready to answer my questions about school work. I want to ess . pecially thank Mr. Brant, who often gave me his time after school to explain to me some mysterious math problems. y g f I would also like to thank Mr. Bach and Mrs., Darkes for their many efforts in helping mentor succeed. Because of them, the possibility of going to college in the United States has become more of a reality. A . Mitch attended kindergarten in Stewarts- town. From there, he attended St. Mary's Catholic School in York until seventh grade. Then, he attended Kennard-Dale High School until his death on February 23, 1976. Throughout his life, Mitch was very active in school and community activities. He was a Cham- pion Speller in the Patriot News Spelling Bee, frequently attended square dances around the community, and was very active in Scouting for many years. In 1973, he became an Eagle Scout, the highest honor that a scout can receive. In ninth 84 and tenth grades, Mitch played on the Kennard- Dale baseball team. His love for the sport also aroused him to play for the Stewartstown Tiger Baseball Team. In addition to these, he was a member of the Saint John the Baptist Church in New Freedom, PA. Mitch was a true friend to all those who knew him and students at Kennard-Dale shall always remember him and his concern for others. The many special moments we have shared with Mitch are unforgettable. James Michael will remain in our hearts forever. avec wee v So 52409 42 FHA York Fair Participants, FRONT ROW: Glenda Heiner-Third Place, hand-embroidered clothes, Barbara Dove, Debra Johnson-Second Place, Place, pillows. It is the compelling story of Charlie, a mentally retarded man, and the strange interweaving of his life with that of Algernon, a mouse. Experi- mental surgery has been performed on Algernon increasing his intelligence three fold. The opera- tion is tried on Charlie, who rapidly changes from a moron toa genius, far more intelligent than his teacher, Alice Kinnian, or the doctors who created the operating technique. As Charlie approaches his peak of brilliance, Algernon shows frightening signs of regression. The story becomes a race against time. This could not have been pos- sible without much cooperation. Special Thanks To: Blatners for their photography and great patience and cooperation. Mrs. Kane and Pam for delivering pictures to us. Mr. Barefoot for his generous artistic assistance. The faculty for letting us out of class and helping us obtain needed information. To the office personnel for enduring our many interruptions and complaints. Mrs. Kulpon and Mrs. McE1wain for the use of the typewriters. Anna Lynn Parlett and Hope Bradley for use of pictures. Mr. Hunt for always reminding us of deadlines and for giving us his cooperation and patience. The 1977 Fawn Staff would also like to wish Mr. Hunt the best of luck and happiness in the future as he leaves us at Kennard- Dale. His help and guidance during our senior year on the year- book and his teaching us throughout our high school years will always be remembered and appreciated.
