As everyone seems to be abandoning the earth for other planets, I have decided to write about the class-for the earth records. I wouldn't have to do this if JOHN KOSTKO hadn't gotten that absurd idea of becoming emperor of the world, with JERRY GUY and KEN GOFFEE supporting him all the way. Naturally this set off a world war and even the head of the Marine Corps DOYT AKOM and his first lieutenant JIM CALLAHAN couldn't stop them. TONY ALEXANDER wanted to chip in and help the Marines, but he and ROGER BAER were too busy working with SHARLEEN HOUT training their new sing- ing group featuring IRENE PAVKOV, PAT SHAW, THELMA SHREVE, ELLEN THOMPSON, and LINDA WATERS to entertain the new Expresso Beatnik CoHee House. A few people seem to be sticking to earth music, however, BARBARA JEAN JONES practices her piano lessons daily, while her assistant EUGENE GANGL diligently turns her music. In the meantime, the war became quite serious and several of the boys were drafted. MIKE CINGEL, ROGER COLE, JAMES DAVENPORT, HAROLD WELLING, and GEORGE WALBECK to name a few. But they cou1dn't win alone so DOT VIROSTKO immediately formed a cheering squad composed of SUSIE DARR, JANICE CROSS, NANCY DROBLYEN and FRANCIE PRICE, but the guys couldn't seem to keep their minds on the battle. Just about that time BOB COCHOY discovered a peace plan which caused the people of the world to select MARGIE RICHARDSON and DICK BUTCHER as the rulers of the world, and there was peace for three ears. Exilerything went smoothly for a while with CHARLES FICKLE plucking chickens in SALLY PEERCY'S chicken plantg JANET BAKER running a reducing salon with MALENE MILLSAP and JUDY DAGUE attending faithfully, and HAROLD BALTER giving skydiving lessons to RUTH HOLMES and GARY MOSS. This was the social season, too. One of the biggest parties was given by SHEILA MCCLEARY, President, and JUDY DENIOUS, Vice President, of the United Nations. The fabulous guest list included: President of the United States-JUNE KORMENDY, Russian Premier-JIM KITCHEN, PAUL GENOVESE-owner of 500 Saudia Arabian oil wells, BARBARA ANN JONES-secretary to PETE MILICH-sole emperor of the Moon fwhich he bought from HAROLD MANN for Sl an acrej, and BILL SNOOKS-present Sultan of Turkey who brought along his harem-MARJORIE LAZOR, PAT SCHLEICHER, DIANE MARR, LINDA FISHER, ELIZABETH KOCH, LODEMA COOPER, and WILMA CONRAD. The biggest event of the season was when GARY BALLINGER and ED STEWART decided to take a trip to Mars. Their crew included ED HUTCHISON, BOB ILER, JERRY KASSINGER, GEORGIANNA MANCUSO, JIM MOON, CAROLYN DELHOMMER, and DAVE ROBERTS. Preacher LARRY HUTCHISON and church organist VIRGINIA BALDENSBERGER prayed for both expeditions which safely reached their destination. These expeditions set off five years of planning the colonization of the planets. PAT OSTERVICH was elected chairman of the move, and with her assistants LINDA ADAMS, JANET CALVERT, and DIANE DERRY sent colonization groups to each planet. This ended the World Wars but was just a beginning of interplanetary trouble, the most famous battle fought between BOB KOGER and KENNY LEGATS over control of Saturn. But like an angel of peace SALLY GUCKEYSON arrived on the scene settling matters by giving ILLONA BELITSKY and KATHRYN DAILEY complete control of the planet. The United Nations gave way to the United Planets and BILLIE BROADHURST was elected president. BECKY ESSIG became treasurer but TOM TOBIN and MIKE SOBITZ were constantly raiding the treasury to make repairs on their racing rockets. BILL WILKINSON and PAMELA WOOD celebrated the First Christmas on Pluto and gave JUDY LAW- SON to CHARLES WILEY for a present. JIM T RANTHEM came down to earth for a Christmas tree but returned with WENDY STANDRIDGE so the group dropped popcorn over PAUL WILAND instead. The Mars settlers had a poor Christmas because JOEL ROSENBAUM wouldn't play Santa Claus, but they had a huge New Year's celebration. MARILYN SMITH dressed as the New Year and PAUL SHELKOF- SKY donned white gown and whiskers as the Old. A few ambitious people including JOE ZURZOLA and CAROL ABICHT weren't content with the present solar systems and headed beyond the Stars for new worlds. JEAN ZEMA and BONNIE PRENTICE are of this group. By 1968 JERRY PARDUE and BERNICE FERRES had founded the fifth solar system and left BAR- BARA ARNOLD and DIANE BAHRY in complete control. NANCY HELM and KENNY GAISER started a solar system all their own with DAVE KIRK and SANDY RAY. Robots invented by KENNY RHODES, GEORGE McMULLEN and MICHAEL WITHERUP, left the rich CARL ADAMSON, DICK FORESTER, and JEROME MATTHEWS with nothing to do but spend their money. FRED NASRALLAH and his secretary PAT NEGRON wrote a book about the ten most famous outer space personalities which included, JUDY PELLE, THOMAS MACK, JOHN WATSON, DONNA SYKES, BETTY SABO, SANDY BLENDENBACHER, LORRETTA CAMPER, and WILLIAM HAUSE, respective leaders of the nine planets of the original solar system and JOHN MILLER supreme ruler. The book was so successful that LEIGH RAMMEL wrote a followup on each of the other solar system leaders. Probably the most notable persons described in this book were DONALD GARDEN, JERRY KAS- TER, GLENN LYCANS, MARY NOFFSINGER, JIM SUTTON and ED TIPPEL all ruling planets named after them. The space age became a reality. DELORIS RODDY and ALLAN ROSPO were designing modern homes which were ideal for living conditions on every planet. BILL PINKLEY and DQN SALZWIMMER had built the largest passenger rocket which pilot GARY YOUNG claimed to be the fastest also. MARGARET TOTH, RONALD WEGMILLER, KAREN SWAST, and ROBERT HARDY had advanced the study of science and math to an all time high. MARY KIRSCHNER, DAVID LIMER and TERRY WRAY were the three most outstanding doctors of the space era. Television was available on every planet due to the technical solutions of BOB SHEARER and JACK TOWNSEND. T. V. personalities were ROSEMARY ZUSCHAK and JOYCE MILLER-famous comediennes, MEG JOLES, PAT GAY and WILLIAM KNECT-singing stars, and GEORGE KITCHEN and MERRIAM JONES-dramatic performers. Programs were based on space themes. A few of the most popular ones were Have Rocket, Will Travel, starring MARTY HOFLE, 77 Milky Way, with ROBERT HILL and BOB WILLIAM- SON, The Star Ranger, with DEANNA WILLENER, Space Cruiser with DONALD DOUGLAS and Life With Venus, starring DARLENE BROWN. A few of the specials included A Night With DOROTHY BRIM- HALL, PAT FISHER Presentsf' To Earth and Back starring ALBERT GOLDSMITH and THE JUANITA LOVELACE Show. Newspapers were not as numerous on the planets as they had been on earth. The Planeteer edited by PAT JOHNSTON and The Sun edited by MARIE FOYS had the largest circulation. Food was taken mostly in cap- sule form but FRANK SMITH'S Space Club still served old - fashioned steak and chicken dinners. Easter and Christmas- became planet wide Holidays, and each year JOBIE SMITH portrayed the Easter rabbit while PAUI. PECK played Santa Claus. The new musical sounds were weird chants and high whistles usually done by female vocal groups. The most famous of these groups, the Rockettes, was composed of ANITA RUSSEL, BEVERLY MARSHALL, CHERIE MCCUNE, VIVIAN PARDUE and BETTY RIEMENSCHNEIDER, led by CAROL RUGGLES. After JIM ROSENBERGER had discovered a way of growing earth plant life on the majority of the planets, familiar earth flowers appeared everywhere. CATHERINE SPAHR and RITA WIGINGTON had the loveliest gardens and large groups of tourists came to see them each year. MARGARET WETZEL, BARBARA ALEX- ANDER, NETTIE BALTIC, BONNIE EDWARDS, ELAINE HUMPHREY, and BILLIE BROWN were hoe- ing the gardens last summer. As 1969 drew near to an end Five solar systems had been colonized, and a total of 50 planets had inhabitants originally from earth. MARY CHIRICH and JANET SPENCER took a census and KAREN SMOLE compiled a 1969 Almanac with the information. VIRGINIA TOSI and DONNA TIMMS became interested in planet civilization before the colonization and with the help of DONALD HOSIER plan their findings in book form. Only a few stragglers have remained on earth. Among those remaining are forest ranger who prefers the wilds of Canada to those of Mars, DAVID AUSTIN a BARTELL successor to Grandma Moses, MARY ANN CARLISLE, PAT WAT JONES nurses in the largest hospital in the U. S.g ELLEN JOSEPH a movie star, KITTIE HOCK- ENBERRY, author BARBARA HOLLER, and writers LINDA KIRKBRIDE, and JANE REAGAN. Active in their respective Churches are JUDITH JONES, ELAINE HAYES. SALLY MACE and her assistant JUDY ROBERTSON are doing the direc- tion of MARY PAMER. LOIS ROBERTS has attained her goal as a certified accountant, with PARKS and LAURA RICHARDS. WILLIE PORTWOOD has complete control she plan to sell to JIM MYERS. ANN MYERS has attained seven college IS consideri giving her a MRS. degree. LOUISE PARKS is the present U. S. President PRISCILLA McCOMBS. A few of the stragglers are spending a year in LENE SIMON, NORMA SUMNER, and JEAN their guide. Last but not least of the earthlings who wives and husbands. This group includes LING, NANCY MIDDLETON, R XL- CHARLOTTE COUP, ELIZABETH DURBIN, BOB and These are the members of the class of 1960 which graduated from K. H. S. records on earth. Maybe ten years from now there will be no one left to keep happen, I'll have to leave now, my rocket is here. Dear Senior Class of 1960, It has been more than an honor to be elected president of an excep- tionally fine class, and I thank you for it. I also wish to thank everyone for your spirit and co-operation during our last year. You have really made it the best year. The end of our high school days is here, and we must prepare for a life of our own. We must make our parents, teachers, and friends proud of us. YV e must repay them for the years spent trying, helping, and teaching. Some of us will be going to college, some into industry and some will go into the service. A majority of us will never see each other again, some of us will never part. But someday, no matter what happens, We all hope to get together and talk about the good old days, our Alma Mater, teachers and a million other things which seem so unimportant to us now. Whatever you do, do not ever forget that you represent Kenmore, the best high school in the world, and that you, and only you, can keep it that way. Do not forget that you represent the Class of 1960 and that the people will judge all of us by your deeds. Always do your best . . . second best won't do. I Wish everyone of you all the best luck and happiness this World has to offer and remember: YV ith God all things are possible. M , 1 ,,, I APPRECIA T10 YVe trust that you will find pleas- ure and joy in the 1960 Cardinal. The arduous task of pictorially pre- senting the complexion of Kenmore Junior-Senior High School was made a pleasure through the cooperation of many dedicated individuals. ' Mr. Friedman, our advisor, was un- tiring in his efforts. We areipleased to acknowledge the aid and assistance of Messrs. Don Leahy, M. R. Wil- liams, C. T. Monroe, and the M. O'Neil Company's Messrs. Fitzgerald and Rowh. Assistant editor Pam Cook was al- ways willing to help. She also served as sports editor, and with the assist- ance of Larry Dooley, did an excel- lent job covering the scene at Ken- more. Business manager Becky Essig did a most eflicient job handling the adver- tising and patrons' pages. With the able assistance of Jim Armour, they made this yearbook possible. Feature editor Margie Richardson did an outstanding job. Her work was made easier by the splendid co- operation she received from Nancy King. No book is complete without a faculty section. Harold Mann and his assistant, Bonnie Rucker, handled this job excellently. Pat Landis and Peggy May did a fine job of taking over the under- classmen section which was begun by Lois Roberts. Judy Robertson, activities editor, deserves a great deal of credit for her work. Barb Kirkendall ably assisted her. Our line art work was done by Ron Perv. Typist Nancy Droblyen did a splendid job and was capably assisted by Marguerite Prehoda. David Hine and his assistant, john Payne, did a fine job of portraying life at Kenmore with their cameras. There are others, unmentioned, that helped to make this yearbook possible and to all we extend our sincere thanks. May God in His infinite glory grant each one of you success, happiness, and peace. june Kormendy Editor-in-chief gvunsooxs .Jhk.:.i.:....aL.......9..1L-,.-I ,M ff, .. -,WM-f. ,...,, ,rglfnza H.. - 7 ...,...5.,..A, X753 I I I I I I I I I I I I I n I I I ' I I I I P I v v I P 1- I I I' r r A a P P r I E L I.
