Dear Malcolm: I met Phyl Briggs yesterday in Marion Boston's Dress Shoppe. She told me that she saw Teen Age Stylist Phyliss Duquette at the world's premier of Nicotine Street, Cplaywright Fred Rowland's version of Tobacco Road. The stars of the play were those two famous Academy Award Winners, Marion Owen and Dick Cheliusj Phyl also mentioned that the Varga Model, Dottie Love, had received an invitation to the Class of '47 reunion. Since I wasn't sure of this gossip, I stopped in Barbara Bodenbender's Beauty Salon and talked to Eileen Johnson, the head beautician, about the rumor. Miss johnson told me that Marge Van Allen, Society Writer for The New York Times, had stopped in to tell her there was to be a reunion. On my way home, I met Midge Harding in front of Sal Kitson's Hat Shoppe on Fifth Avenue. Midge said that she just left Dick Blanc's night club, The Gilded Goose, where she has the honor of being keeper of the paltry dollars. I told her about the reunion and she said she would inform bartender Frank Wilkins of the big event. Upon turning down my street, I came in contact with Ginny Wells. Miss Wells, a star forward for the Boston Beauties, is in town for the National Womens' A. A. U. Championship Basketball Tournament to be held in Madison Square Garden. I would like reservations for Miss Wells, my husband, and me. Thank you, Mas. T. NICHKJLSON Clnkyj My dear friend: To be able to come back to a city not infiltrated by strikers will be a great thing. In Millerstone, the city workers, including the staff of Library Administrator Thomas Crage and the teachers of Plache Memorial School, have not shown up for their jobs for more than a week now. The injunction which Mayor Blum sought from Governor Walton was declared illegal by the courts, and CIO President Garland Tomlin sits back in his chair wait- ing for an increased budget in the city council. Again, I am happy to come to Kenmore to observe the peace and order preserved by your Police Chief Jim Alexander. With kind regards, CMissJ JEAN TUTTTON Hello, you wonderful people! I received your invitation to the Class of '47 reunion at the party given at the home of my eighth boy friend Uim Kellyl. That was in Chicago. I have picked up two new acquaintances since then. My ninth victim, Mike Donnelly Cof the Donnelly-Seelbach Doo-Dad Co.l would like reser' vations for ten. I will not be able to attend this fine affair in as much as my tenth beau fDr. Robert Drasgowj and I are parting. At the present time, I am friendly with Ronald Fazekas, President of the Fuzzy Tire Co. I'm so sorry I cannot join the fun. Love, ANONYMOUS P.S. CU Would you please contact my former associates as they may also wish to attend? l. Mr. Robert Grimmer-Long Beach, Ontario. COwner of sand pit No. 692. 2. I've forgotten who he was. Couldn't have been very important. 3. Mr. Ronald McMahon--Radar City, New York. Cjack Benny's vocalist.j -I. Mr. John Hill-Paducah, Kentucky CTobacco auction- eerl. 5. Mr. Cliff Hansen-The Moon Clnterplanetary Com- missionj. 6. Mr. Bill MacDonald-Manangua, Nicaragua CBanana salesmanj. 7. Dr. Anthony CI.iottil-Miami, Florida CLove analystj. P.S. f2J My new address is on the envelope-Hollywood, of course! Gentlemen: Inasmuch as I am living in Alaska, you probably think that I have not seen any of my old friends for some time. Oddly enough, I am not the only one way up here from our Class of '47. In Juneau, I saluted my old classmate Vernon Abel, the governor of the state. He, in turn, led me to other notables-namely Trudy Kraus, Red Cross field director, Vice-President Alan Loesser of the Harring- ton Gold Mines, Inc.g and the presidents of the two textile industries-Jane Wark and Pat Hammond. If you have not heard about the potentialities of Alaska lately, you might read Jean Plumb's book, The Romance of Alaska. It describes the work of Dave Muir and John Mowatt in the field of political, economic and social betterment for the territory. Their achievements are now being studied by Russian experts for use in the Siberian communities. Be sure to count on me for a reservation. Sincerely, CMissJ BETTY MAY Kkfwss Ilorticulturift Reservation Committee: Please make reservations for the Class of '47 reunion for the following ten sports celebritieis: Larry Bagne, world's champion bowler, Robert Connor, yo-yo coach at D'Youville A. 8: M., Norbert Creighton, Toronto Maple Leaf hockey star, Bernard Graham, World Heavyweight Wrestling Champ, Harold Killer Fenno, Boxing Champ of the National Paperweight Division, Dick Irvine, N. MOULDER OF DE TI Hail to thee, Shaper of youth, moulder of destiny! We stand prepared to leaveg With expectant eyes turned toward the futureg With yearning hearts remembering the past. The past that was Hlled with anticipation Of the great things yet to comeg Fraught with desire, Yet sometimes wounded by failure. Failure that left us a little older, And with a bit more wisdom To be used in guarding against other failures. We stand prepared to leave, With expectant eyes turned toward the future, With yearning hearts remembering the past. Hearts filled with gratitude Toward our guides who, in friendship, Reached out helping hands When imperception caused us to tarry Beside the torturous road of learning. Hail to theee, Shaper of youth, moulder of destiny! Hail to thee-hail and farewell! BETTY ARTHUR 17
