Class Poem of 1944 UNFINISHED BUSINESS This year we stand upon the rim of unknown venture, Challenged by a world engaged in livid strife. We youths whose future holds uncertain promise, Are faced with greedy hatred, by appalling loss of life. No stern or measured epic has set a patterned route By which the goal we seek can soon be won, Tomorrow,s mystic dawns await a sure and truer foot To quell men's warlike passion so long ago begun. Our own great hopes withdraw hefore the menace of the time Swept in fleeting swiftness in the wake of war's regime, The old wild joys and laughter, the carefree eager eye, These things of old, though not for us, are but a hattlecry For the trumpet of a prophecy in inner glory rings, Undaunted we shall meet the World on pinioned fledgling wings With eyes unveiled and youthful hearts matured to sober peace, We'll rid this troubled sphere of war and gain secure release. By JOYCE HOLZMAN
