CLASS PROPHECY Dear Mrs Chittenden I have just returned from a wonderful trIp covering much of the UnIted States and southern regions How pleased I was to ee so many of my former classmates' l flew from Lakehurst In a plane piloted by Edwin D uchler Wlfh Eileen NIchols stewardess She was busy keeping Doris Kretchmar the famous poet from jumping out Finally Lottie Oldag Marion Dory and Ida ChamplIn three passengers who were returning to their positions as stenographers to the Secretaries of State Treasury and Labor Robert Hofner Allan Leary and jIm Farley succeeded In calming her Our fIrst stop was at Washington where I decIded to try my new motion picture camera I was ready when something dark flashed past the lense I looked up to see ChIef justice Phil Duchscherer He said that some of our DFEVIOUS classmates were living here I was told that jack Honeywell IS an outstandIng senator and that Mary Lou Carlson IS the head of the Department of Education Phil was on hIs way to a trIal of our ambassador to the Fiji Islands Denton Swartz who had been getting too rough wIth the natIves there After takIng views of the Capitol I decIded to vIsIt the zoo There I encountered Herman Rekoon the caretaker Margaret Nauert with Robert Round Martha Baldwin George Kresky Eleanor Michael and Arnold KIrt land who were having the best tIme feedIng peanuts to the monkeys They still live In Kenmore neIghbors to Maud Spoor and LouIs White of whom the latter IS a gym Instructor IH the hugh school Other teachers In my Alma Mater are Grace Holden swImmIng Margaret Stock and AlIce Wolf history C Evelyn Woodruff rudiments of musIc Robert Howard and johnny Logan football and basketball coaches They also Informed me that Owen Block gives dancIng lessons In his studIo on Delaware Avenue and that Isabelle Rennie Grace janes Margaret Kuhn Clara ReckIn and Frances SpauldIng are his best pupIls I was told that Robert lrwIn IS ChIef of PolIce and that Marie FerdInand and Grace Nicholson are wardens In the women s sectIon of the jail the newly elected dog catcher IS DavId jerman My next stop was at FlorIda where another plane had just arrived co piloted by Marion Dutro and Betty McMahon That nIght I stayed at a hotel run by a former KenmorIte Richard Browning After I had unpacked a few covered was edIted by Richard Burke The headlines told of a shIpwreck off the coast Among those r scued by some of the gallant crew which Included Courtley Parker jackson Bowling Frank Schneider jack Doane and Paul Shryer were DOFIS MaIers Iona Bergman Evelyn Boos and Lorene Bierley chorus girls on theIr vacatIon In the dramatIc section of the paper Ronald Dunlavey critic featured jessamine Barrett s play High LIghts a college drama that starred Effie Sutherland and Bradley DIxon josephine Rohas Grace WeItz Muriel KlIpfel and MIllIson Latham had parts as co eds jean PottInger feature writer was Wflflng an expose of the slum condItIons In VBVIOUS CIIISS The sport page gave the results of the OlympIc contests held that day Some of the wInners were Luella DuGray first In the mIle race and Alma Ross second janet Elve hIgh jump Irene Szabo the front dIve Eleanor johnson the shot put jane Colby broad jump Louis WhIte the two mile race and William Wardrop the discus throw It was stated that In the hospital set up on the grounds Dot KIngston and Dodo Elliott eminent physIcIans and nurses Ruth Lumley Esther Givens Eleanor ThIeson Madelyn Gall VIvIan Edgar and Esther Egloff were Indeed kept busy Then the hotel orchestra began playmg TheIr fIrst pIece was the famIlIar Smoke Rmgs featurIng Warren Pellien as trombone soloIst Other members were William ax Keith Sargent Albert Fellows and Ralph WhIte Later In the evening a floor show was held A novelty act was presented by Charles Smith supported by the popular come dIan Allan SmIth A blare of trumpets announced a Hula Hulu dance by the Werner troupe among whom were Vera Aiken Ruth Holman ClarIce RIdd WInIfred Hodge Evelyn Schultz Dolores Boles jean NIblock EdIth Wadon and Vlfglnla Seader all of whom kept In perfect tIme with the drum mers Dolores Drum and VIrgInIa Drumb The vaudeville was concluded by QI ' c . . . . 3 . . things, I wandered back to the lobby to read the evening paper which I dis- . e I ' '
