THE FOUR YEARS THROUGH Before we travel unto the world of adventure let us look back once more upon the actuvutues which the class of l934 has so successfully sponsored Far distant un the past lues the unforgotten graduatuon of our class from unuor Hugh School Then Wulmah Harris class presudent Effie Sutherland vuce president and Muss Marie Wulson class advuser guided us un the straight and narrow path of triumph Followung the custom of prevuous years we accomplushed nothing outstand ung durung our Sophomore year At the end of our junior peruod we were able to boast of one of the best junior Promenades ever held Dancung un the gauly decorated gymnasuum to the smooth rhythm of Kung Connor and hus Clug C-eorguans the eluguble lunuors the unvuted Senuors and the faculty wutnessed one of the largest crowds ever assembled at such an event un Kenmore Hugh School Among the offucers who were responsible for thus affaur were Phulup Duchscherer presu dent Effie Sutherland vuce president Allen Smuth treasurer Maruorue Guess secretary and lvluss Dorothy Tueerdsma advuser Durung our Senuor year many profitable events have been sponsored The Senuor Carnuval held un late October was a huge success contrubutung to our present hugh reputatuon of achuevement and untroducung vaudevulle talent from the student body prumaruly Senuors Very fresh un our munds us the Senuor roles taken by Effue Sutherland Burton Benz and jackson Bowlung were executed wuth the skull of professuonals Wuthout boasting we may also truth fully say that during our era musuc for student dancung has grown from that on a vuctrola to an orchestra Heretofore the student body was accustomed to dance to the vuctrola and few came but when Duke s orchestra offered uts servuces student dancung soon became a very popular actuvuty The Student Council establushed a new seating arrangement for assemblues wuth whuch the Senuors who were guven the choucest seats un the audutoruum were much satusfued We are thankful that we have been able to publish an annual dur ung the depressuon We belueve the staff has created a year book rated as one of the best consuderung the curcumstances We are also proud to say that our class has one student Mary Lou Carlson who throughout her hugh school career has mauntauned the very unusual average of 97 4 per cent Class Day wuth uts sumptuous banquet and the dancung that followed wull always be re membered And then not long after thus our solemn graduatuon accompanued wuth the umpressuve caps and gowns formally untroduced us to the world As we look back over the four years we naturally thunk of those who have been especually helpful to us un accomplishing our obuectuves Our suncere thanks are extended to Teddy Suekman our class advuser who has guven generously of hus tume and energy un backung our endeavors The records of our class hustory would not be complete without mentuon of apprecuatuon to Doc Freeman for hus good leadershup and cooperatuon wuth each and every one of us PHILIP DUCHSCHERER Class Hustoruan Q0 play Tiger House. decIded to vIsIt the zoo There I encountered Herman Rekoon the caretaker Margaret Nauert with Robert Round Martha Baldwin George Kresky Eleanor Michael and Arnold KIrt land who were having the best
