f'U'h.-qt As all the important events of past times and the lives of all great men are recorded as history, we, the Seniors of 1956, feel that we must leave some re- cord of our achievements during our school days which will soon be history. We entered our freshman year at Kenly High in 1952. We thought we were awfully smart and very grown up, but we had a lot to leam. We were confused by various rules and regulations, clanging bells, and changing classes which were all very new to us. We had as our sponsors that year Mrs, Boyette and Mrs, Yelverton, Our class presidents were Charles Little and Betty Culbreth, Some of us had extra-curricular activities such as basketball, baseball, Glee Club, and 4-H Club, Soon our freshman year had ended, and we were faced with summer holidays, We re-entered school in the fall of 1953 as high and mighty sophomores. We knew everythingg we were upperclassmen then, Our sponsors for that year were Mrs. Sullivan and Mrs. Yelverton, and our class presidents were Charles Little and Wanda Peacock, That was the year we started raising funds that all classes must have to meet numerous needs that might arise by selling candy and cookies. With the end- ing of that year, we were ready to be known as Juniors. A bright sunny fall day in 1954 found us returning as very hopeful Juniors. Our sponsor was Mrs, Vandaveer and our class president was Charles Little. Our attention was focused mainly on ordering class rings and on the Junior- Senior Banquet, but we had other thoughts which were not so very pleasant. There was money to raise, so we started this campaign by investing in the Junior Store which was very rewarding, We also did outside work, such as picking cotton, grading tobacco, and selling school pins. Then someone suggested a Junior Play, so we presented Here We Go Again which was a great success, We now had ample funds to begin plan- ning for a Junior- Senior Banquet which was given May 8 in the Cherry Hotel at Wilson with a Southern Plantation as our theme, I think that I can rightly say that everyone enjoyed it immensely, At class night we presented the rose chain to the Seniors which we thor- oughly enjoyed because it made us feel that we were nearer to being able to replace them as Seniors, Thus ended our third high school year, What a wonderful feeling to be re- turning to school for our last year! This being our last entrance, nothing stood out more in our minds than the thoughts of of graduation and diplomas, Mrs. Van- daveer was our last sponsor and Truette Wall was our class president, Our main job that year was publishing The Galle- on, It was a lot of work, but we think it was well worth while, We sold ads and magazines to raise money that year, We sponsored two class plays, 'Finders Creepers and 'Here Come the Bridesl' These were very joyful occasions. Some members of our class participated in bas- ketball, baseball, Glee Club, Beta Club, 4-H Club, and Student Council, Another important date in our history was April 27 when the Junior Class invited us to the Cherry Hotel in Wilson to enjoy with them our last school banquet, Their theme was Candyland, and it proved to be a very enjoyable evening for everyone. Our mas- cots honored us with a barbecue supper at Batt Johnson's on May 10, This nearly ends our last school year with the exception of our class night, We chose as our setting, April in Paris' and it provided us with memories that we will never forget, At last May 28 arrived and we were ready to say good-by, not with regret, but wishing to express our gratitude to everyone for of- fering us the four fullest years of our lives. You may be sure that we will carry -' well-earned diplomas in our hands and innumerable memories in our hearts, Historian, Sarah Jones Sasser
