Unfortunately, however, the local team was defeated by Wolcott in the play-offs for the Section 5 State Championship awards. The defeat in the playroffs was the result of a number of handicaps which the team encountered during the year. I-Iowever, the boys were not discouraged and are looking ahead to a more successful season next year. SPORTS MISCELLANEA Sports miscellanea include the extra-curricular sports activities in which students participate on a voluntary basis. A varied program for both boys and girls is offered each year. Among the sports included are soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, softball, speedball, touch football, horseshoes, track and field events, tumbling, apparatus, and trampoline, and wrestling. The program varies according to the time of year and the age and sex of the groups involved. Such a program develops sportsmanship, team-play, cooperation, and interest in sports on the pilrt of those students who are not able to participate in varsity sports. This year the high school girls' intramural program consisted of volleyball, basketball, tumbling, soccer, and softball. Last fall a trampoline was added to the equipment of the physical education department, and both girls and boys intra- mural groups have been enthusiastic users of the new equipment. As usual the Cirl's Athletic Association assisted with the grade gym classes, and on two occasions the girls attended play days at Holley. The first time they played volleyballg the second, basketball. The C. A. A. elected the following officers: President - Nancy Hawthorneg Secretary - Ann Welchg and Treasurer - Violet Yvilliams. This year the boys intramural group was quite active. ln the Class C, Section 5 division Kendall had five wrestling champions: Ted Halstead, Alan Schickler, joseph Tauschek, Norman Hughes, and Charles Bolton. The boys also participated in the VVinter Sports Carnival which was held in Elba. On the volleyball team were Charles Bolton, Charles Rath, Jack Harvey, Alfred Bruce, Melvin Schultz, Larry Klafehn, Norman Hughes, and Larry Bergevin. Melvin Schultz and Larry Bergevin represented Kendall in ping pong, Alfred Bruce, James Rayburn, and Jack Harvey competed in the badminton tournament. Although Kendall had no winners, the boys did their best and enjoyed the experience.
