Our Leaders County Superintendent - MR, O, P, JOHNSON Robert E, Lee was held in such reverence and esteem after the Civil War that people looked upon him with unusual veneration. Parents brought their children to him that they might be able to say in later life that they had seen the great general,scho1ar, and educator. One mother asked him to bless her child. whereupon, he placed his hand on the child's head and said, Teach him to deny himself, My challenge to each individual member of the Class of 1960 is to leam to deny yourself, We are little more than animals until we leam this lesson, and you cannot develop the greatness there is within you until you have learned to do this. Today we live in a great age and in a great country, Much progress has been made in many areas of life, This progress did not just happen. Vision, thinking, plan- ning, and toil, in a large measure, have caused lt to come about. We have a great heritage, Let us hold fast to the best of the past. Let us add to this the best of to- day. Let us work and have faith in ourselves, our neigh- bor, and our God. Congratulations on producing a very fine annual. Thanks to each student, each teacher, and each parent for the many contributions that have made James Kenan High School one of the best anywhere,
