Der Deutsche Verein or German Club was organized to further promote an interest in the German language, culture, and customs. Through club activities, we learn about the Germany which cannot be taught in the classroom. Some of our activities have included the learning of German beer drinking songs and a folk dance. In addition, a field trip was taken to Virginia State College to tour the language lab facihties. IL Chorus The Choral Department of Kempsville Junior High consists of two mixed choruses and one girls Chorus. The Choruses presented two concerts during the year, a Christmas and Spring concert. Flanagan is composed of 78 members and 9 majorettes. During football season, the marching band and majorettes performed at several games. In December the band joined the chorus in presenting Christmas In Song , the first concert in the school auditorium. They also performed in the District Band Festival. Under the able coaching of Mr. Coulthard and Mr. Ingram, the team was one the school was proud of. Hard practice and outstanding effort and desire by the players resulted in our first football team being the Junior J.V. With one hundred and thirty prospects in the Dusty Dungeon , the Braves went to work for their basketball season. As the dust cleared fifteen ballplayers emerged. They heard about such things as Clearing out. Draw Charge, High-Low, Point Zone, Stack Man, and Sunday. Saturdays, Thanks- giving, and Christmas were spent with pounding of the round ball and some of the guys talking about Pride, Reacting, and playing with the heart. Do You Want It? The players did and finished the season as Tournament Champions and just six points from a perfect season. The team scored a total of 338 team points compared to 232 for opponents. The Braves had only 132 points scored on them in the last seven matches. Also, the team had 37 pins on the season.
