X 1 l The attractively redecorated ness hall includes two elevated tables in the center portion, each representing a new ar- rangement for specialnseating this year. With the president at his table are seated the commandant, the cadet battle group commander, and his adiutant, plus an additional administrative officer and two masters assigned to mess hall responsibility. At the second elevated table are seated additional members af the official and the cadet staff plus school guests. Behind the president's table three flags are placed: an American flag which has flown over the U.S. capitol building, the Kemper corps of cadets flag - both hung on the wall, also, on a standard behind the president's chair is the universal Christian flag. . -If, rg :MI W' .. . .Q i ,, ty , Winter artistry is in evidence as the lighting at the school en- trance casts a glistening effect upon the snow during the still of - a cold January night. Dedication Effk. U ...A . - ' 1yf15A5'Sifi'f: Sf Psftsti 1 ff. 1.-91 i ' gl Qi! . . With a sense of respect, the corps of cadets dedicates this yearbook, constituting a review of the 1959-60 year, to our president and headmaster, Samuel E. West, who in his first year as head of the school, has contributed valuably to the welfare of the school community. Assuming the presidency at a time when Kemper was moving into a period of transition following the re-organization of its corporate structure and in looking toward a program of development, President West is guiding the school with an insight that will insure the continued growth and progress of an institution that has gone forward for ll6 years. Our gratitude, however, extends beyond appreciation for the hours of diligent work by the president in pro- moting the best interests of Kemper as a leading independent educational institution - it embraces a more personal nature - the wholehearted concern he has shown for each of us - as individuals. A former Kemper cadet, who moved up the ranks from new boy to cadet officer and with a decade of previous experience in a boys' school, President West readily understands our problems - our anxieties. More importantly, he is interested in helping us, i dividuall to meet and overcome obstacles and difficulties, in challenging us to accept the advantages offered n y, d ' ' t'll'n in us the rinci les high morals, and attitudes, nec- P in the varied phases of the Kemper program, an in ms I 1 g p , essarytin learning to live with ourselves, with others, and in leading purposeful lives.
