One ofthe oldest military schools west of the Mississippi River, Kemper was founded May 8, lS44, and has been in continuous existence since. The school is the sole survivor of some 40 private schools that have been started in Boonville - Few schools con boost of so many yeors of achievement and richness in tradition.

A serene atmosphere prevails over the South campus during the calm of a late afternoon. Relaxing in an informal discussion with Kemper master Buel T. Johnson in the president's reception room are Capt. Victor, Capt. Eaves, Capt. Rehklau, and Cadet Fischer. Portraits of former presidents and wives are on the walls of the recently remodeled room. On the wall at left are portraits of Col. and Mrs. T. A. Johnston and at right are paintings of Prof. and Mrs. Frederick T. Kemper.
