GODSOX is a son of Godson Godson, Blajor 3rd Battalion of Duke of Cam- bridge's Own Middlesex Regiment and was bO1'11 at the lNIanor House, Clapham, Surrey, England. September 3, 1868. His early educa- tion was had in the schools of London. In his early teens he came to Canada. entered the Royal DIilitary College at Kingston, Canada, and graduated there in the Long Course. He served in the .Northwest Mounted Police and the Canadian hIounted' Infantry from 1885 to 1890. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army and served as private and non- commissioned otlicer from April 18, 1891 to July 19, 1894. He served as 1st Lieutenant 35th U. S. Volunteers from July 5. 1899 to lNIay 2, 1901, being most of this time in the Phillipines, where his military record runs as follows: Topo- graphical Oilicer at San Miguel, Bulacan, P. I., Feb. 2, 1900 to Jan. 10, 19013 Provost Marshal, San Miguel, Bulacan, April 16 to Nov. 9, 19003 Commander of Togalo Scouts, San lNIiguel, Bulacan. from Nov. 9, 1900, Registration Offi- cer, San Miguel. Rulacan. May 11. to Dec. 1-L, 1900, Pro- vost Judge. San Miguel Bulacan. April 7. 1900, to Jan. 1, 1901. During his Phillipine service he participated in vari- ous engagements in and around San lNIiguel and in expedi- tions and battles of Generals Lawton and Grant. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 10th U. S. Cavalry Feb. 2, 1901 and served in Cuba with his Regiment from October 1901 till the evacuation of the Island. From that time till September 1906, he was stationed at Ft. Robin- son. Nebraska. He accepted detail to Kemper lIilitary School September 1. 1900 and concludes a four years tour, the full limit allowed by army regulations. next September. He was married on November 189-I. to lNIiss Josepha Boyd Bentley, of 1Vashington City, and Morristown, N. J. They have two children, 1Villiam Holford. Jr., and Elizabeth. Colonel Godson's administration of his department in Kemper has conformed fully to the best standards of mili- tary science. and he has consistently and constantly stood for the highest standards of honor and ethics. He carries with him the afI'ectionate remembrance and hearty good will of the Faculty and cadets of Kemper.
