The Gallery. -rf , J mu ii? l w ul XA' T414 OME months ago Mrs. T. A. Johnston began making a collec- r y-f' tion of portraits ofiprominent men who were formerly stu- - dents at the Kemper Family School, now known as the 3 Kemper Military' School. The latest portrait received by her I J is that of Alonzo Lawson, who was reared in Boonville, but mm' K ' for many years past has been one of the most successful and distinguished citizens of New York City. This portrait is magnificently framed, and of great value. Mrs. Johnston has collected about twenty portraits, which are hung in the hallway at the main entrance of the school. They furnish an interest- ing study and represent nearly all geographical sections of the United States. From the Atlantic Seaboard comes the picture of Mr. Lawson. From the Pacific coast comes the picture of the distinguished Dr. Edward Taylor, poet and translator. To the northwest Montana is rep resented, and then the sunny south is represented by the Rev. J. A. Quarles, D. D., LL. D., of Washington and Lee University. I Accompanying these portraits are letters, in which the writers congrat- ulate Mrs. Johnston upon her novel enterprise and in which, also, they re- vive memories of their school days under the late F. T. Kemper and Col. T. A. Jahns-ton.--Boonville Advertiser. js 'a . .-.-W! r kg 4 iv 3
