1 VarsiTy rally spreads school spiriT 'IT Takes a loT of Time buT iT was a greaT experience and I goT To meeT a loT of new people.' - Nicole KnighT 'Being on rally was a IoT of hard work buT was some- Thing I will always remem- ber.' - Kim Wishard Advised by Mrs. Elana Carpen- Ter, varsiTy rally consisTed of six dedicaTed girls. The squad includ- ed Amber Coburn, Makani Coila, Nicole KnighT, Erin McGhee, Tracy Williamson and Kim Wishard. Rally began pracTicing in May by learning The fling from IasT year's squad. Then, The week afTer school released for summer vacaTion, They pracTiced Monday Through Friday for Two and a half hours a day all summer long. In July, They aTTended a cheerleading camp aT CenTral WashingTon UniversiTy in El- Iensburg, To learn and improve Their skills and Techniques. Money making proiecTs To raise funds for Their ouTfiTs began IasT spring. As soon as The rally was chosen, They sTarTed selling sunTan loTion and candles. They also puT on dnces and sold baskeTball pro- grams. RequiremenTs for becoming a cheerleader included a 2.5 GPA and elecTion by The sTudenT body afTer performing a dance rouTine. Also, The WashingTon lnTerschoIas- Tic AThleTic AssociaTion recognized cheerleading as a sporT. Mrs. Elana CarpenTer, advisor for five years, enjoyed making The close friendships wiTh The girls, IT would be hard for me noT To really know Them since I work wiTh Them for I3 monThs. lT's really neaT To see Them geT To do The special duTies and public reIaTions work for Kelso, as we have very worThy girls on This squad, sTaTed Mrs. CarpenTer. Be- cause of The exTremely long work load, she hired a former cheerlead- er, Denise Inman Werner, To help The squad wiTh dance rouTines. 5 T - Carrying on The TradiTion of The Hiland Fling, Tracy Williamson, Kim Wishard and Erin McGhee perform during halfTime of The homecoming game, 2 - Yelling from her block, Kim Wishard cheers her Team on To vlcTory. 3 - The varsiTy rally consisTs of Nicole KnighT, Tracy Williamson, Kim Wishard, Erin MCC-hee, Makani Coila and Amber Coburn.
