The extent, therefore, to which these young people develop a deep sense of respect for the great principles upon which our government is based and a feeling of personal responsibility to see that those principles are observed and maintained is of utmost importance. We hope, students, that as you turn through the pages of this book you will be reminded of the many pleasant days you spent in Kelso High School. We also sincerely hope that you will feel that through having been here you have been enabled to become better citizens, that you are more adequately prepared to take your places as useful, worthy, adult members of the community and nation. King Football reigned dur- ing the fall of '50, and Kelso began what should have Hoqmflm ' 4 1 1 9 been a championship year Longview ' 4 1 1 9 for the Hilanders. With let- Vmcouwr ' 3 2 1 7 termen Clifff Richards, Roy Kelso , 5 3 0 6 Minium, Dick Swanson, Pat Olympia ' e e 3 3 0 6 McGeary, Bill Epton, Don Aberdefn ' 2 3 1 5 Hansen, Tom Gunnari, Vic Centralia .......... 0 6 0 O Painter and Dave Brewer, KHS went in for a year of football that fans will re- member long from now. Kelso had more substantial backing from the juniors in the persons of C. Norton, L. Wheeler, B. Hansen, T. Cooley, R. Fristad, D. Peterson and D Medlock. They also had a host of other players from the 1949-50 championship B-squad. Several of the varsity players were picked for the Southwest Washington All-conference team and several more were given honorable mention. On the mythical first team we find Roy Minium playing end, Tom Gunnari playing tackle, Dick Medlock playing half back. On the second team were Dick Swanson at end and Bill Epton at tackle. Honorable mention went to Don Hansen and Cliff Richards, backs: Dave Brewer, tackle, and Ralph Fristad, center. Another fact that stands out is that Dick Medlock cinched the individual scoring title for the SW conference. Medlock scored a total of 50 points in six conference games, This is the first time that a Kelso player has won the title. Kelso was way out in front in the conference until they met Hoquiam. The Scots went on to win the Homecoming game with Lewis and Clark of Spokane, but lost the final two conference games with Vancouver and Longview. The inspirational award was presented this year to Cliff Richards. Cliff has been an in- spiration to all of his classmates as well as to the members of the football team. That is the plot of Ameuic and Old Lace which was presented by the Class of 1952 as their junior play. Living with the two ladies is their nephew who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt. The kind-hearted lunatic disposes of the bodies by using them for filler in the dingy base- ment which he thinks is the Panama Canal. Complications are forthcoming when the black sheep of the family returns with the idea of setting up his illicit operations in the old family house. The play was double cast in the three women's parts in order to give more of the junior girls a chance to take part in the comedy. Production committees worked hard and long to provide the right kind of set for the play and to take care of the numerous details that are involved in the production of a play.
