O The shrill thunder of a touchdownfcrazed crowd, the thud ol a haslcethall on maple flooring, the piercing crack of hat against leather Y- this atmosphere the radio, through its sportscasts, has hrought into every home. The words and pictures on the following pages will help hring hack memories of sports events of the 194041 year. GIRL' Plllll' O Girls' sports proved to he more competitive this year than they have heen in recent years. Under the direction of Miss Bassett, many girls turned out for volleyball, hasehall, haskethall, and tumbling. The volleyhall season came first on the '41 schedule. There were no had feelings in this sport, as the teams tied, each winning one game and losing one. Some mil' the girls one could see practicing for volleyhall very often were Ellen Hasegawa and Annie Valhala, sophomores, Louise Heino and Louise Risley, juniors: and jackie Vkfannassay and Wilriiii Ramsey, seniors. After volle'l1all, the haslicthall season fot underwa '. The sowhomores u vset the 5' ls Y l l higher classmen, and took the haskethall chain ionshiw, heating, in some ver exciting . P l s Y s games, the seniors 1 1 to 16, and the juniors 12 to 27. Wlieii players like Ruhy Lincoln and Delores Ridenour, juniors, Marjorie Smith and Bettie Vsfagonhofler, seniors, and lrene Bjornson and Beverly Ivlorgan get on opposing teams, plenty of excitement is inevitahle. To wind up the haskethall season, the Blue and Gold teams were chosen from the sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The Gold team downed the Blue 24 to 12. The Blue and Gold teams were captained hy Frances Rice and Bettie Vxfagonhofler, respeetively. The hasehall teams were very evenly matched. During the school's Open House, the girls' sports classes helped put on a gym show featuring tumhhng, laadminton, haskethall, and volleyhall. 12
