HIS year in basketball only four high schools made up the league Long view Vancouver Camas and Kelso We p ayed three games with each school The winners from this league met the winners from another league and thus by a process of elimination they worked up to the state contest The Longview team represented the Southwest League at the conference game at Hoqu1am The basketball season for Kelso was one close game after another Even though we won only five conference games we think the squad should be complimented for their fine spirit For the first and only year Kelso was IH the Big Four league com posed of Vancouver Longview Kelso and Camas The teams finished in the order named after Vancouver had beaten Longview in the champion ship play off game Kelso finished third after being picked for fourth As a nucleus for this years team we had only Roy McCabe and Frank Lee returning lettermen but Rolly Mayclin Joe Wagonhoffer Ortie Hall and Lyle Eyer developed enough to make up the first six and win their letters this year The regular schedule was begun poorly by losmg to Camas 20 18 and to Longview 25 21 Our first conference win was recorded over Vancouver on our home court 25 23 1n a game which was one of the closest and fastest of the season This victory was followed by a defeat from Longview on our home floor 19 14 and a defeat from Vancouver 42 17 Because of poor weather we played Longview mstead of Camas and lost in an overtime 28 26 Then when things seemed darkest we beat the league leadmg Van couver Trappers 25 18 on our home floor to keep Longview in the league lead and followed this by losmg agam to Longview m the last second 22 21 Our two final games were played with Camas. We beat them here 35-21 with Roy McCabe scoring 21 points for Kelso. but as a seasons wind- up which saw the two teams battling in a game which had no bearing on the standings the Highlanders won in the closing seconds 23-22. NE who has never worked on the annual staff cannot appreciate the vast amount of time, effort. and money that goes into the building of a book. The editorial staff must plan, gather, correct, and copy all mater- ial. The advertising and sales sraff must see that there is money enough to cover all expenses. Obviously, the editorial staff will be limited by the results achieved by the advertising staff. The advertising staff carried on their work by contacting different firms in Kelso and Longview and collecting adverfisements from them. At least one member was down town every day and often all of them were working. The effectiveness of their efforts is indicated in the the large number of firms-fifty in all-who have paid for advertising space in the annual . The work on the annual is now completed. Each staff has done its best to produce something which will please you students. You can now show your pleasure by patronizing the business firms who have made this book possible. Show them and tell them you appreciate their cooperation. The Staff. left to right: Bob Markshausen. Delbert Bee, Mr. Taylor, Alfred NIcl'orkle, Donnella Hoff.
