That was the year that In l964, Kelly High School was honored by the Illinois Superintendent of Public Instruction by being chosen as one ofthe Demonstration Centers in the State of Illinois program for gifted children. Programs for the gifted at Kelly High School have been formulated to maximize the student's motivation and interest. Emphasis is generally on the development of language skills and artappre- ciations. These are seen as necessary to the needs of both college and noncollege-bound gifted stu- dents, cultivating the kinds of skills that will be useful to both types of students as they look for- ward to a satisfactory, meaningful adult life.
