With this passing year, our captain, our principal, Mrs. May C. Allen, carried with us the cares and joys. She led us onward, onward into the fields of the year. Howe'er the days were to be, cloudy or bright, glorious or subdued, she produced the inspiration which either kept up our morale or gave greater glory to success. We knew endurance and saw it in her every word. We pursued victory, which was encouraged by her persevering smile. We admitted defeat, but with her, gloried in successful campaigns. Yes, the year that has passed will be put aside and called history, but we have the satisfaction ot knowing that we had an encouraging captain, who will till other hearts with the inspiration she has poured into ours. -3, M 7 I 7 gl N ' 1 C. if '-c ' 4: -157 ??' :lf V A A+ ,,,,-r' N 'X can -,Su Sri iq: N ft S RC' Cr Q 'T .2 -a iss. wr Ls if A -Q ,yer Q' if '9'C.f 34 '72-'Q C '.t,,NU , 'T LK, s. 4- sf V K 26, -2 IZ? There would be no presentation without this grind of practice. Thanks to these eighth and ninth period rehearsals each day, every member of the organization is proud of the results presented at assem- blies, concerts, and social affairs throughout the school year The orchestra, with Mr. Blackard as its director, has pro- vided overtures and concertcs for the appreciative theater audi- ence that comes each spring to see the senior play. During the spring months this same group can be heard practicing for the annual city-wide orchestra contest, usually run off in May. Besides supplying music for the football games, pep as- semblies, and parades, Kelly's band, under the direction of Mr. Borger, makes known to all Cat the spring band contest? that theirs is one of the finest entered, as was shown by the coveted S rating that they received. For this contest the band played Alladin's Lamp, Egmont Overture, and Sousa's immortal Stars and Stripes Forever. 18 PHI X Q' .QB :AL s uO.Jq0fg 7!LgAf, O Mghf fibiuine. v Proud of their new robes, the Girls' Choir ot 90 voices and the Mixed Choir, numbering 38 are ready to sing at assemblies whenever called upon. In India, on Ian- uary 30, and throughout the World, millions of people mourned the death of Gandhi, be- loved father of India. At home we experienced the vari-type in our metropolitan papers. The presidential race was in full swing. NVe danced the jitterbug and fox-trot, yet we directed our feet to the slow, melodious I wa-tz, which so well completed the picture of the past. We sang such old revivals as, I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover which scored hi h f 9 on the parade of hits. Among the newer ballads were Now ls the Hour and Ballerina. We spent enjoyable hours watching such features as The Iolson Story, Gentleman's Agreement, and The Best Years of Our Lives. Yes, this was the year of transition, even the mode of clothes changed. The fashion world introduced the rebirth of the longer length or the new look. This was the year the Band brought home the S once more. Though defeated on the scoreboard, the spirit of the Trojans is undaunted. The team met with strong opposition, yet they played hard and have taken their losses in stride. The sports- manship of the team as shown on the gridiron has been ac- claimed by grandstarid spectators and rivals alike. Heinen and Krornplewski were co-captains of the team and led the gridmen against their surging opponents. Kromplew- ski, right halfback, was chosen the most valuable player of the '47 varsity team. With the spirit of fair play and team cooperation, Kellyans will venture to chalk up memorable '48 football history. .af vi sw- if ' T ,W xi- ig5Lin ara em in euiew ......... l A - PIGSKIN PARADEBS IN REVIEW Fiist Row: M. To my mind Kelly has everything that I ever hoped to see in a school. Some of the things that impressed me were the building itself and the equipment in the different rooms: the swimming pool with its fresh, clear water: the showers used after swims, games, or gym classes: the auditorium with its roomy stage: the clerical practice room with machines actually used in the best business offices. Kelly offers both work and play. The friendliness between teachers and their students is still an unfamiliar right. The very unusualness of having a clean-up week makes school exciting, and to top it all, the Spring Fling social at the end of the week culminates in the coronation of a King and Queen. All this, to me, is Kelly, and everything she stands for. Miriam Oschkowsky, 31-X 81 EPQJAWQCLIQ 5 Row OnevDolores Aftanas, Robert Ahlfeld.
