Then the legitimate stage thrilled us with Anything Goes and shocked us with To- bacco Road. O Bing Crosby, who had just become the father of twin sons, made Easter Parade famous in '34. O Then radio hits were Walter Damrosch, Baron Munchausen, Clara, Lu and Em, Seth Parker, and yes, Amos 'n Andy. O 0 O O L This year Song of Bernadette won the academy award and The More the Merrier was a runner-up in the comedy line. This year Clark Gable is a Captain in the Air Corps. O Now the public is jamming the box office of Oklahoma. O F rank Sinatra, the proud papa of a new son, makes girls swoon with his rendition of 1 Love You. 9 Now we listen to lack Carson, Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Fibber and Molly still, and in- numerable quiz programs, loan Davis launches a new role, the woman comedian. 0 In the summers of '33 and '34 Chicago played host to the world with A Century of Progress. Fortunately, hotels wanted guests and railroads wanted passengers. O O O In baseball the St. Louis Cardinals walked The victors of '34 were overpowered in '43 away with the laurels in '34 and the Detroit by the New York Yankees. Tigers were left vanquished. O 0 One afternoon in the summer of '34 the Stock Yards were ablaze. The first on-the-spot broadcast of such a disaster was sent out to the nation during the fire. ea . . . VETERANS IN I-I YUUNG SEHUUL-AND YUUNG IN SPIRIT TUU! When our school celebrated her tenth birthday Septem- ber 17, 1943 there were fifteen charter faculty members on hand. Some of these teachers stayed on when Kelly Iunior High became Kelly High, and others came to join the faculty of the new school. We Hope This Merry Enmpany Will Celebrate Again When the Cake Has EU Candles! ik Our school celebrates her tenth anniversary this year. Many things have occurred since she became a senior high. Let's refresh our memories with a contrast of '33-'34 and '43-'44. Then We were struggling out of a great depression. As that struggle ended our present one was in embryo. It was on March 5, 1933 that Hitler overthrew the German Republic at the polls and in 1934 he became Chancellor of the Third Reich. A weary world must have its amusements. The movie is, of course, a popular diversion. 16

She has broadened our social contacts through our participation in activities. She has helped us to cultivate new interests through the club program. She has deepened our awareness of duties as citizens. She has placed emphasis on scholarship as a necessary measure in meeting the challenges of post-war America and world relationships.
