This Lamp- light--r is ...ny .....- i.-sn..-.-.-. our Imp.-S for an nm-ull in this y.-ar of shortages mm- mm-fializ.-a only through her foresight. Many time-s in our school can-er Mrs. Alle-n's counsel has helped us immeasurahly, and we know tllnt we shall conllnnc lo profil hy lu-r words of advice wisely spoken. ll is n trlhnle to Mrs. Allen that we fccl we shall always be indebted to her for making our years nt Km-lly n genuine course in Ann-ricnn citizenship. INNING THE WAR AND INFLUENCING THE PEACE conduct and high standards and to engender an ahiding faith in puhlic education. The demo- cratic ideals of' freedom. justice. and right are still thc hope of luuuauity hut ideals cannot flourish without education. Both the Army and Navy have advised students to remain in school until actually called to duty and have allowed them to continue their education in the armed forces. ltivcry puhlic spirited orator who speaks to young pcople today advises them that true patriotism for them is Remain in school-W get all thc education you can now. And every for- mer Kcllyan who writes from Mover there gives similar advice. Our role in determining the peace lies hefore us. lt is the role of making the voice of educa- tion heard through understanding of what the schools are doing and hy supporting education generously. It is the role of practising what the schools have taught, namely, to assume an active part in puhlie life hy holding office and voting intelligently, to exhihit tolerance among racial groups, to welcome the service men hack to a respected position in the community, to con- tinue the ration program willingly until suffi- cient supplies are availahle to all, to understand the fallacies of the Misms and stand firm against thinly veiled suhversive groups. Our citizenship in a world democracy implies the responsihility of influencing a fair settlement of world aflairs and maintaining a lasting world peace. PRINCIPAL
