LAST WlLL AND TESTAMENT ofthe CLASS of IUNE l93S As we take up the valedictory pen to bequeath to posterity our heritage of abundant knowledge, our educational equipment, our congenial surround- ings, and our high hopes yet to be realized, we pause to meditate and rem- inisce at the expense of this, our last unanimous address. Successors, immediate followers, you exalted Seniors who are closest our advancing footsteps, we place in your hands the problems, cares, and brief thrill of our dignified position and attainment of a slight authority in student affairs, from the status of a lofty hall guard who admonishes dallying Freshies, to a position of responsibility and prominence of vital benefit to the entire school. f'- Iuniors, yours is the impending and happily acquired privilege ofbecom- ing the leaders of this co-educational institution. Yours will be the burden and acclaim for the short day, until you too, shall pass onward as the Classes of '39 and '40, To the Sophomores we bequeath greater hopes and aspirations, with energy and initiative to enter the various activities and work upon the dreams closest your youthful hearts. . Upon the Freshmen we bestow our dignity to withstand the cool,. scrutinizing eye of the upperclassmen. Yes, we recall with a pang, tstrange to admitl, the vacant searching look upon the faces of the newly-fledged Kellyans, as we scoffed at them to hide the bitter desire of joining their ranks again. Yes, we the unapproachable envy you. We endow you with the traditional Bow- Day green bow and lollipop, also the audacity with which you consumed it in class, glorying in this new liberty. To our friends, the Faculty, we leave a fleeting memory of the ranks of the youth 'of today, who are whirled from your protecting wing, 'neath which we paused for a while, before heeding the call of the road. Many thanks, friends, for your aid in embarking us upon the eventful adventure of gradua- tion. We extend to you our handclasp in return for that all-powerful store of knowledge which you have given us. And to each other, we will courage and success in furthering those dreams we launched four years ago, about whose fragile structure we built the founda- tion of our career and life itself. And to ourselves, as future alumni, we will this book, a document, a lasting record, as a memento of our yesterdays within these portals. In solemn witness whereof, we affix our official seal and signatures. HELEN VACEK, Attorney-at-Law Witnesses: EDWARD BAGWELL, DOROTHY IANICKI Page 27 1 J

A Class of lanuary l939 CLASS OFFICERS President ..........,....... Enzo Giuntoli Vice President ..... ,.... M ardel Sauter Secretary ...... ........ E lla Kiaup Treasurer . .... Alyce Ahlgrim Class History We are the graduates of Ianuary, '39l The hand of Fate brought us together: brought us from surrounding neigh- borhoods and other cities. A few of us spent our first semester of high school at the Burroughs Branch. Miss Martha Hinkel was the head of the Branch, and now we can see that it was she, along with Miss Best, Miss Monaghan, Miss Shaack, Mr. Sheehy, and Mr. Allaben who really started us on the road to achievement. After that first, long year, we gained the title of Sophomores. At last we felt that we were getting somewhere on that long road that leads to being a Senior. We gained new recruits from other schools, but many dropped from our ranks. During this year, many of us began to take interest in extra curri- cular activities, with the result that when we became Iuniors, we were the most active group in the school. Our class was organized and met at the meetings of the Iunior Club, sponsored by Mrs. Baas. Our pioneering spirit crept out when we completed the plans suggested by former classes, and sponsored the first Iunior Promenade in the history of the Kelly High School. Finally, we had bestowed upon us the title of Seniors. Now we found that members of our class filled many important positions in the school. We gained these positions, encouraged by Miss Farr, Miss DeGraff, Miss McEniff, and Mr. Dixon, our division teachers. places. We give our torch to them have ended.
