34. The Francis Bayless Home - This home was owned by George Huntington who purchased the land from Irad and Datus Kelley around 1839. It is one of the older homes on the Island. It was built from red cedar. The cedar beams can still be seen in the basement. 36. The Myers Home - This was the former home of Gus Son who was a well noted theatrical personality. The home is noted for its gingerbread affect trimming. 36 35. The William Kelley Home - The gingerbread trim on this house is said to have been carved by guards at J ohnson's Island during the Civil War period. Nancy Kelley, William Kelley's daughter, now resides in the home. This is a picture taken many years ago showing William and Marcella Kelley, grandparents of the late Bill Kelley, stand- ing in front of their home.

The Frank Haig Home - Vi Haig operated a restaurant in her home for a good number of years. Many people enjoyed her home cooking. Vi and Frank now rent bikes which enable people to tour the Island. 30. The Post Office and Hancock-Wood Building - The Post Office has been housed in the Hancock-Wood Electric build- ing since September 1974. The electric company has been segyling the Island since 1953. Craft's Bait Shop and Motel - Elmer and Rosie Craft pur- chased the dock and cottages from Captain Hamilton in 1969. Since then they have added the bait shop and motel to the property. . 3 Y 'raw-. The home was built for Captain Hamilton's grandmother as a wedding gift. Capt. Hamilton was a descendent of the Kelleys. Mrs. Hamilton still resides at the home. She is the holder of many interesting Island stories. 35

37. The Casino - Don and Domxa Nowak are proprietors of this establishment. Almost every week, during the summer, the vacationers will encounter live entertainment. Bands vary so that all music lovers are satisfied. L1 41. The Henry Lange Home - Exact date of this building is un- known, but it is believed to have been built before 1861. Mass was held here before St. Michael's Church was built in 1863. The home also has an arched wine cellar. The family grew grapes and produced wine. 43. Kelley Mansion - This house was built during the Civil War. Datus Kelley gave the home to his son Addison as a wedding gift. The only child born in this house was the late Capt. Frank Hamilton. The home is of limestone quarried from the Island. One of the points of interest is the circular staircase. The home was sold to the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan. In 1945 the sisters opened the home for a summer camp for girls. In 1974, the house was sold to Mr. Don Loehrig. A,.,afy. Elf 40. The Fred Himmelein Home - This home was owned by John and Johanna Himmelein. The first section was built in 1849. It was used as a resort hotel for many years, hosting such famous guests as President Grover Cleveland. Later, many theatrical people came to practice for plays. 42 Koster's Dock The dock received its name because in 1833 a wine cellar was built on its shore by Mr Koster The wine cellar was destroyed by fire. Later, Lay Brothers Fisheries used she dock for its fishing industry. The dock is now privately owne . . 37
