These two words were very popular in the Agriculture Department this past year. Agriculture students had numerous accomplishemnts in the classroom, shop area and in leadership and juding programs. The Ag students achieved unity that they haven't had in a while, which helped them work closer together and accomplish more, said Dallas Renfro, teacher and FFA sponsor. Agriculture classes taught students leadership and skills that could be useful in the future. Through Ag I was able to learn about animals and that enabled me to take better care of my own animals, said Tomiko Norcross. Besides caring for animals, Agriculture classes taught the students skills such as record-keeping, goal-setting and money management. Ag's biggest winners were joe Pace and Dake jackson in the Weeds, weeds a n d m 0 r e w e e d s - Robbie Hess, Neil Robinson and Calvin . Lisa Strong won the district Future Farmers of America sweetheart contest. Even though all Ag students didn't receive ribbons, they were considered winners! Not everybody can win, but all the Ag students are some of the finest leaders of the school. Not only do the students compete in FFA activities, but they also compete in other various school activities, ranging from athletics to jour- nalism, said Renfro. Ag teacher George Smith summed up the year: The single most accomplishment this year was the transformation of the raw talent in students to productive, creative young adults that are an asset to our community. - LEA ANN TOLLIVER f' ff . . . .W-if , , Q3 - -r-f - . q. -. -.iff .1 ..:.a-- fl ' , 'I ff-ma. ft ' M ., 4,,.: 1 'ff ,W ' M By : :r, .,g, , a,.f L M 1 -Q r 7-varwwfs t- Y . f a :if 'mv za. - I Y' - 4141.21-s'fw.a2r,f '-1:f .. a .- of . A place to belong FTA benefits many different students Future Teachers of America is a respectable organization with many benefits, ac- cording to President Iris Perez. It gives a person a place to belong and be a part of. When a person thinks about FTA, he or she might think it is an organization for future teachers only, but not necessarily. lt CFTAJ could be a benefit to a student in the future, regardless of whether or not he or she decides to become a teacher. A person can learn to be responsible and to get along with others, said Perez. Sponsor Ms. Pamela Wren organized club and officer meetings, FTA activities and projects. Officers were Perez, Vice Presidents Pavala Russell and I.aShawn Pen- nington, Historian Sandra Smith and Treasurer Cheryl Korte. On March 8-9, Future Teachers attended a convention in Dallas. The students attended workshops at the Hyatt Regency which concerned the interests of students planning to be teachers. Club members attended the convention by attaining points for such things as promptly attending meetings and designing and making bulletins boards for teachers. As president it has taught me a special aspect of responsibility, organization, leadership and respect, said Peres. - SHANNON WEBB - Shannon Webb FTA 85
