Over 200 graduate on May 30 Seniors urged to 'go beyond Z' Climaxing a year of lasts, graduating seniors accepted diplomas on May 30. A standing-room only crowd of over 3,000 jammed the bleachers of the KHS football field for traditional baccalaureate and commencement exercises. Highlighting the evening, Principal Bill Newton introduced the Outstanding Senior Girl Jill Hasty and Outstanding Senior Boy Bret Kidd, acknowledged scholarship winners and called the names of the approximately 249 graduating members of the class of '86 as School Board President Dale Rogers awarded them with diplomas. Ten seniors graduated with high honors 34 with honors and 16 as members of the National Honor Society. David Aldets of Trammel Crow Company of Dallas gave the keynote address of the evening. Quoting from a Dr. Seuss child's story book where characters invent letters not included in the regular alphabet, Aldets encouraged seniors to go beyond Z to find success in the real world. Bottom Row: jill Hasty, Baronda W'ilson, Kim Felknor, Ann Beebe, Christi Stroup Tassel Turning - Senior Class officers Anissa XX'ilson, State Mobley, Paige Bradley and Neyce Fails lead the seniors in the turning ol' their tassels. 48 Graduation The former Texas A8cM University student body presid and intern of United States Senatorjohn Tower also challeng the graduates to be leaders, not followers of the future. Traditional aspects of the ceremony included the salutat address by Ann Beebe and the valedictory address by K Felknor. Opening the ceremony, Paige Bradley gave the invocation. ln perhaps the most moving moment of the night, Barry Yandell sang the class song Friends Are Friends Forever. Closing the ceremony, Senior Class officers directed the movement of tassels, Cary McKay led the class in its Hnal singing of the alma mater and Stace Mobley gave the benediction. Finally and triumphantly, as the band played Fanfare and Recessionalf' a jazzy pep 'em up match, the graduating seniors paraded off the Held just as they had marched on an hour and a half earlier, wondering . . . is this where life ends or where it begins? - BOBBY ROSS

Valedictorian Kim Felknor A member of the French Club, National Honor Society, Science Club, International Bac- calaureate, Academic Decathlon and participated in UIL competition in science, a National Merit Scholarship recipient and has received two scholarships at Texas A8cM University where she will attend next fall as a biochemistry major. Salutatorian Ann Beebe A two-year member of the National Honor Society, is active in the French and Spanish Clubs, the Future Teachers Association, Student Council and International Baccalaureate.
