Don't get bumed! - Senior jill Hasty works on her tan during the Ranchland trip. Party Animal - Chip Dickens catches some rays by the Ranchland pool. o boycott Traditional senior trip stays in style after opposition Probably no Senior trip has come as close to being boycotted as this year's. A senior trip is usually thought of as one last op- portunity for the Senior Class to unite as a group and socializeg only the prom and Senior luncheon gives the members a chance for the whole class to get together and provide such fellowship. It's been a tradition for the past five years for the Senior trip to take place at a dude ranch. However, when the ticket sales were announced, many seniors voiced opposition because they hadn't been consulted on the location of the trip and were outraged by the 325 cost it entailed. When, after a week of ticket sales, only eight tickets had been sold, it did indeed look as if the trip would be cancelled. Prin- cipal Bill Newton and the Senior Class sponsors began to voice a true concern over the matter and decided to hold a special meeting to discuss the matter. Newton explained that it was too late to change plans since a 351000 deposit had already been made. Seniors had suggested other possible locations for the trip such as Six Flags, Wet N' Wild or even the lake. These were impossible, however, due to the difficulty of supervision. It was finally agreed that Ranchland was the only possible place for the trip, and the tickets were reduced to 1522. Such a marked opposition concerning the Senior trip may have some bearing on next year's trip, if next year's seniors want a voice in the decision, they need to express their preference early in the year to their senior class officers. - ALEX CHRISTIE xiii. Over 200 graduate on May 30 Seniors urged to 'go beyond Z' Climaxing a year of lasts, graduating seniors accepted diplomas on May 30. A standing-room only crowd of over 3,000 jammed the bleachers of the KHS football field for traditional baccalaureate and commencement exercises. Highlighting the evening, Principal Bill Newton introduced the Outstanding Senior Girl Jill Hasty and Outstanding Senior Boy Bret Kidd, acknowledged scholarship winners and called the names of the approximately 249 graduating members of the class of '86 as School Board President Dale Rogers awarded them with diplomas. Ten seniors graduated with high honors 34 with honors and 16 as members of the National Honor Society. David Aldets of Trammel Crow Company of Dallas gave the keynote address of the evening. Quoting from a Dr. Seuss child's story book where characters invent letters not included in the regular alphabet, Aldets encouraged seniors to go beyond Z to find success in the real world. Top Ten - Top Row: Bret Kidd, Brian Harlan, Derek Sharp, Kathy Towns, Rhonda Moore, Ginger Koenig. Bottom Row: jill Hasty, Baronda W'ilson, Kim Felknor, Ann Beebe, Christi Stroup Tassel Turning - Senior Class officers Anissa XX'ilson, State Mobley, Paige Bradley and Neyce Fails lead the seniors in the turning ol' their tassels. 48 Graduation The former Texas A8cM University student body presid and intern of United States Senatorjohn Tower also challeng the graduates to be leaders, not followers of the future. Traditional aspects of the ceremony included the salutat address by Ann Beebe and the valedictory address by K Felknor. Opening the ceremony, Paige Bradley gave the invocation. ln perhaps the most moving moment of the night, Barry Yandell sang the class song Friends Are Friends Forever. Closing the ceremony, Senior Class officers directed the movement of tassels, Cary McKay led the class in its Hnal singing of the alma mater and Stace Mobley gave the benediction. Finally and triumphantly, as the band played Fanfare and Recessionalf' a jazzy pep 'em up match, the graduating seniors paraded off the Held just as they had marched on an hour and a half earlier, wondering . . . is this where life ends or where it begins? - BOBBY ROSS
