Two place 4th in individuals Students go to state in UIL We can do it! That was drama and debate teacher Taffy Geisel's assessment of the One- Act Play's chances of making it to state in February. Three months later, her prediction became reality. The cast of the One-Act Play I Never Sang For My Father by Robert Anderson and five other students advanced to the University Interscholastic League's 76th Annual State Championships for drama and academic events, May 8 through 10 at the University of Texas at Austin. The One-Act Play cast shared championships with Boswell High School at the district, area and regional levels. Representing District 7AAAA, Keller and Boswell were two of only eight AAAA plays in Texas to qualify for state. The schools performed May 9 at the UT-Austin Performing Arts Center Concert Hall. Senior Barry Yandell won a spot on the State AAAA All-Star Cast for his performance. In addition to Yandell, the cast of I Never Sang For My Father included Kelly Perkins, Scot Lackey, Kristin Blevins, Traci Grissom, Angie Percifield, Andy Criss and Danyah Arafat. Crew members included Iris Perez, Becky Timms and Tammy Cline. Alternates were Kelly Grissom and Carey johnson. Other state UIL competitors included Baronda Wilson, ready writing, Debbie Yaniko, extemporaneous informative speaking, Bryon Sutherland and Mari Felton, team debate, and Bobby Ross, news writing and headline writing. Coached by Mrs. Dorris Worsham, the District 7AAAA and Region ZAAAA readywriting champion, placed fourth in state. The District 7AAAA runner-up and Region ZAAAA champion informative speaker, Yaniko also received a fourth place in state. Winning two rounds and losing one, Sutherland and Felton narrowly missed a spot in the state final four in team debate. The two were District 7AAAA champions and Region ZAAAA runner-ups.
