With old traditions broken and new traditions started Homecoming keeps its special magic I was ecstatic! It was somethin that I dreamed about, but g never hoped of achieving, senior Paige Bradley said about being named the l985 Homecoming Queen. Although the tradition of naming the Homecoming Queen stayed the same, there were some variations in the proceedings. Two added features were having a spirit chain at the Homecoming pep rally and announcing the names of the Homecoming Queen nominees at the Grapevine pep rally a week before the Homecom- ing game was played. As new traditions were started, some old traditions were put to an end. The annual Homecoming dance was put to an end in favor of a Halloween dance. In addition to this change, the Homecoming parade was deleted mainly due to the fact that six weeks exams Breakthrough - The Varsity cheerleaders, with the help of the Spirit ream, help hold up the sign s for the Varsity football team to run through. Vision of Loveliness - Nominee Rhonda Moore is greeted by Prncipal Bill Newton during the halftime crowning of Homecoming Queen. Moore is escorted by her father. J coincided with it and students were too busy studying. The bonfire remained an unchanged tradition, after it was re- vived in l984. The night before the Homecoming game, over l5O students showed up at the bonfire to cheer the Indians on to a win against opponent Diamond Hill. The bonfire was really great. There were a lot of people there so that made it even better, junior Diana Williams said. Putting the final touch on the Homecoming festivities was the crowning of Homecoming Queen Paige Bradley. Bradley was among five nominees to receive this honor. The jam was the first dance of the school year. It gave new students a chance to meet new people and others a chance to renew old acquaintances. Mr. and Miss Hula and King and Queen -Iam were chosen and a limbo contest took place. Scott Boswell and Stace Mobley were chosen as Mr. and Miss Hulag Eddy Weeks and Mellisah Sharp were crowned King and Queen jamg and I-leather Hester won the limbo contest. All received gift certificates to a tanning salon as their prizes. I feel the dance was a success. It was the first dance in decades that brought in money, Student Council member Dawn Fuqua said. I2 jamfMonster Mash The place looked good. I had a blast and the band wasn't too bad, sophomore Shauna Palmer said. The Monster Mash honored students with Best Costumes, Most Original Costume and best Masher awards. Chad Hamill received the Best Costume awardg jason Bramlett won the Most Original Costume awardg and jimmy Williams was chosen as the best Masher. The Monster Mash, though, did have some unexpected prob- lems. Students were told to evacuate the building because a fire alarm went off, causing the mashers to remain outside for approx- imately 20 minutes while the Keller Fire Department checked the building for the fire that was nowhere to be found. - LOREE VARDAS
