Smile!! - Brian Harlan escorts Tomiko Norcross to her initiation. Initiation - Scott Blankenship is inducted into NHS while Bret Kidd, Paige Bradley and Srace Mobley look on. National Honor Society CNHSJ accomplished several things during the year. The members sponsored College Night and a breakfast to welcome new students. They also promoted a 15-day European tour and organized a peer tutoring program. College Night was mainly for juniors and seniors. Some of the colleges that were represented were Baylor, TCU and Texas ASLM University. Issues covered during the night were scholarships and the cost of colleges. It really helped if you didn't know what college you wanted to attend, said Presi- dent jill Hasty. The sponsors were Kaye Blevins and Beverly Brown. A 15-day European tour was promoted. While in Europe this past summer a group went to Rome, London and saw many sights. Congratulations! - Tomiko Norcross chats with Amy Casey after initiation Proud - janie and jamie Casey come for daughter Amy Casey's initiation. 156 NHS NHS: Around Campus Around the world NHS organized a peer tutoring program which enabled members to tutor students who were required to take tutorials. The main goal of the students, said sponsor Kaye Blevins, is to keep up their grades and get into a good Col- lege. NHS is a service organization for students of the same high academic level to be around one another. Unlike other organizations, members are chosen by grade. Members have to have a 3.5 grade average from their freshmen year to the first six weeks of their junior year. Another requirement is to have an upstanding character. New members were inducted into the National Honor Society during a candlelight ceremony in the commons area on November 25. - JANET PARNELL

we- LL! The need to understand was what made us give a little extra time to the subject matter both at home and at school to master the lessons. The desire to learn was what kept our eyes focused on the teacher and the blackboard - instead of on the clock. From first period to sixth, our minds encountered new concepts, old theories and dif- ferent angles - all designed to make education an experience in itself. If we didn't fully take advantage of this experience, we denied ourselves the chance to understand the world around us in ways we never felt imaginable. But, if we did take this experience, if we found the need to understand and the desire to learn - we truly captured the spirit of knowledge. The Chief fray would like to dedicate thir .rertion lo A.
