olf ers gain experience All-rookie team places second in district Golf is a very interesting sport - one I've really enjoyed learning how to play, said senior Kelli Leonardo. This phrase pretty well described the general feeling of this year's girls' golf team. It was the first time any of the nine members had every played on a team before. We didn't do real well because it was the first year for everyone, said Coach Cecil Cannon. Despite this fact, and after eight tournaments, the team placed second in district. Their main goal had been to go to tegionals, which we definitely established, said Coach Can- non. He enjoyed teaching the girl's team because They work hard, are easy to work with, and are easy to coach. Coach Ray Brangan, who coached the boys' golf team, also had the similar goal of going to regionals. They, too, ac- complished their goal and finished fourth. Golf season started on March 5 and ended with the district games on April 14 and 15. The team practiced at Willow Springs Monday through Thursday for two to three hours a day. Some ofthe best tournaments the team competed in were Waxahachie where they placed third, and Gainesville where they finished seventh, Doug Brooks was the team's best player with the low score of 76 in the Waxahachie tournament. Coach Brangan said he enjoyed coaching because lt's fun in the spring when the weather's good, and it's a totally different sport. - ALEX CHRISTIE 1 Steady - Thao Nguyen practices her hitting techni- lf ,fp , 4 ques at the Willow Springs golf course. ,U Look out! - Kevin Wester sends the ball flying dur- K ,, p w' i X ing after school practice. wif T gif.
