Get it in, - Sophomore Darren Wilkinson prepares to shoot for two. Practice makes Perfect - Frank Wilson, Robert Russell and Mack Zim- merman practice for the upcoming games. J ef R JV and Freshman boys basketball show the Indian pride While the Junior Varsity boys' basketball team split their season 11-11, the Freshmen won 16 out of 24 games. Haltom proved to be the best game for the JV. We played as well as we could, everything we did was right. said Cecil Cannon, JV and Freshmen boys basketball coach. The worst game for JV turned out to be the last game against Grapevine. We just didn't shoot well. said Cannon. The Freshmen teams' worst game was Brewer. We had beaten them easily in an earlier game. Cannon said, but to make up for the game against Brewer, the Freshmen made a comeback, with . silt T l i VV., V ,V,. 2 -JV player Angie Frank 1999345 bears Grapevine down the floor for an easy lay-up. Hurry! - Freshman Dayna Newton hurries down court to set up defense. Help! -Misti Shaw M5145 protects the ball while waiting for teammates Leslie Sharpless Q41 19 and Ronda McGrew C3329 to get open. Fish of both Worlds JV, 'Fish' basketball teams hampered by inexperience Due to the small number of upperclassmen that turned out for girls' basketball, the freshmen ended up fielding both the Junior Varsity and Freshman teams. It was real disappointing having a team of all freshmen because we were playing all sophomores and juniors, said JV coach Louise Bailey. I feel if we would have had all the freshmen on the freshman team, we would have never been beat, said Freshman Coach Adele Kennedy. Having to play upperclassmen all the time put a real burden on the JV's spirit. It was real hard to have good spirit because we never won, but we stuck together and kept trying, said JV player Angie Frank. However, the freshmen's spirit was usually good. Even though we weren't always a winning team, we managed to keep our chins up. We always yelled and cheered during practice, which made it fun, and not just hard work. We could smile when it was over, said freshman Heather Spore. In every sport season, there's always a disappointing thing that over-shadows the positive points of the season. Both teams agree on the most disappointing thing of the year. The most disappointing thing was our record. It wasn't what it should have been. Some games we would play our best and still lose, but other games we'd just fall apart, said freshman Lori Quillen. Even if a team doesn't have a good record, the season can still be a success, if the players learned an important lesson. The most important lesson that I learned was that you have to want to do it. You also have to give everything you have into it. As the coaches would say, 'You have to give 1 1023 at all times', said JV player Kasie Rogers. - CINDY MAYS ,... i.-'a A ' t5'r.1izf.
