o quitters. Poly game thrills girls basketball team Indians Never Quit was the team motto for the girls' Varsity basketball team. To show this spirit, the Varsity basketball team never quit, they con- tinued to unify as a team throughout the season, said Coach Laura Bynum. Although there were some downfalls, there was some improvement as the year went on. There were some exciting games this year. The most exciting game was the last game against Poly, who at the time, were the zone leaders, This victory forced a zone play-off between Poly and Castleberryf' said Coach Bynum. Another exciting game came when the team went to Hirschi. The Varsity basketball team won with a score of 49- 44. It took two overtimes to defeat Hirschi. On the other hand, there was also a most frustrating game this season. The loss to Boswell after we had led the whole ball game was the most frustrating game, said Coach Bynum. The most rewarding thing about the team was the continued progress they XiiL.. Varsity Basketball Team - Top Row: Manager Christi Newell, Melanye Chittum, Candy Crawford, Shelly Price, Micki Myers and Coach Laura Bynum. Middle Row: made as a team as well as the individual improvement in their fundamental skills of shooting, passing, dribbling and defense, replied Coach Bynum. The most frustrating thing about the team was they did not believe at first that they were capable of winning, said Coach Bynum. Coach Bynum's feelings in general towards the year's Varsity basketball team include, they are all super special because of their desire, determination and dedication to become the best they are capable ofbeingf' The Varsity basketball team consisted of seniors Melanye Chittum and Tia Rosser, juniors Stacey Newton, Marcia Swope and Shelly Price, sophomores Wendy Lewis and Candy Crawford, freshmen Kristi Hicks and Micki Myers. Tia Rosser was named Most Outstanding Player. Shelly Price was named Most Improved. The Varsity basketball team had a season record of 13-15, district record of 6-6. - MELANYE CHITTUM Kristi Hicks. J ef R JV and Freshman boys basketball show the Indian pride While the Junior Varsity boys' basketball team split their season 11-11, the Freshmen won 16 out of 24 games. Haltom proved to be the best game for the JV. We played as well as we could, everything we did was right. said Cecil Cannon, JV and Freshmen boys basketball coach. The worst game for JV turned out to be the last game against Grapevine. We just didn't shoot well. said Cannon. The Freshmen teams' worst game was Brewer. We had beaten them easily in an earlier game. Cannon said, but to make up for the game against Brewer, the Freshmen made a comeback, with . silt T l i VV., V ,V,. A 120 JV 8: Freshman Boys Basketball Boswell being their best game. On the JV team, Doug Brooks and Mack Newman were the most outstanding players, and on the Freshmen team, members Kevin Massie and Brian Hazelwood were the most outstanding players. Coach Cannon, 14 JV players and 13 Freshman players began the season in November which lasted until February.
