Aside from regular classroom projects, each student is required to have at least one home proj- ect annually which is usually due at the end of the sewing unit. Although cooking and sewing are a part of a home economics course, child care, home planning via interior decorating, home manage- ment, financial planning and etiquette are stressed by Mrs. Cecelia Wilson and other instructors in the department. onstructive Abilities Stimulated By Industrial 'n Woodshop, LaSalle Wallace varnishes a hand-made bowl while Jhilip Daniels carefully cuts a table leg. l The Industrial Arts Department here at Kellam is designed to teach the student practical skills. The student acquires his knowledge through iworking directly with the subject. Drafting students under the direction of Mr. arruth learn the technicalities of Drafting I, II, Il. During the first two years, drafting students earn basic mechanical drawing. In Drafting III the esson is architectural drawing. Third year tudents also are able to draw and build a model ouse. This seems to be one of the greatest leasures of the drafting student, In Metal shop, taught by Mr. Webb, students earn skills correlated with metal, such as metal haping and arch welding. Students are taught ow to heat metal, howto bend it and to shape it I rom a plain rod into a footscraper. ' Woods is taught under the supervision of Mr. 5Lassitor. Here, students learn one of the most in- 'teresting arts in the world. It is offered in a three ear program. Students in Woods I learn the asics of how to use the shop tools.
