Rainey Biology, Marine Biology Westhampton College, B.A. r'W,..--- In Mr. Perceful's chemistry class there is always something interesting going In order to keep in step with fascinating scien- tific discoveries, being made each day, Mr. George Hecker, Science Department Chairman, and his staff offer courses ranging from life science to earth-space science, biology, chemistry and phys- ics. Last summer a course in marine biology became a reality for Kellam students after several years of planning and hoping by Miss Mary Rainey and Miss Rosalind Pittman, The program, which allowed for projects and utilization of area marine life, was a huge success and will hopefully be offered again this next summer. Miss Rosalind Pittman, who spearheaded the summer workshop, left her position as Department Chairman at mid-semester to accept a two year International Teaching Fellowship Award from the government of Victoria, Australia. Several years ago Miss Pittman was one of only a few persons in the United States to receive a National Science Foundation scholarship for grad- uate study.
