A Year of Firsts Guidance Department Gives G TB Tests The Guidance Department, headed by Mr. Wade Duke, lr,, strives fora closer working relationship between students, parents, administrators, and counselors. The counselors primary objective is to help the student solve educational, vocational, and personal-social problems while striving to give the students a feeling of confidence in themselves as well as others. Many students find their counselor an inspira- tion in their studies and in preparing them for the classes to be taken in later years. A student, through the advice of his counselor, may make sat- isfactory adjustments in areas that may be causing him difficulty. This year, three new counselors have joined the staff. They are Mrs. Grace Meekins, Mrs. Sandra Mandrick, and Mrs. Frances Runzo. Every year, counselors test all the students through various tests. This year, the Guidance Department teamed up with the State Employment Commission to give the GATB test to non-college bound seniors to determine their employment pos- sibilities. The department also participated forthe first time in the College Clearing House, sponsored by the Virginia Council on Higher Education.
