Rotating editorships provided each Iournalism II student it ith the experience to edit the liellani Roundtable. Because of the laelx ol' funds, subscriptions were sold to students and fac- ulty. ln previous years all students received free subscriptions since yearly fees. now abolished. covered this cost. Aiding the Roundtable stall' were students from Mrs. Blankenships first year iournalisni classes. which were new this year at Kellain. For the lirst year the Roundtable received an award for the newspaper. The Virginia Beach High School League awarded the Roundtable first place in high school catefories of newspa- IWVS. Mrs. Blankenship strikes her usual pose on her favorite stool. Ginger Maddox and Dale Bruso piece together another page. Work, Work and More Work! Challenger Blends Dreams and Realities in '71 Coverage - Moniot Heads Staff When famous chefs cook, they treat every ingredient with care because they know it might make or break the finished product. The ll Challenger is the result of many hours of the mixing of ideas, the blending of copy and pictures, the stewing of the thousand and one frustrations, the sizzling of nerves, and the simmering of a dedicated staff working diligently towards their hopeful goal, their masterpiece , The editor-in-chief, Melanie Moniot, along with her staff. worked long hours, after school and on weekends to meet the deadlines of the 1971 yearbook. Under the guid- ance of Miss Anne Frances Allen, sponsor, the efforts of the staff, the Challenger was created. Ioella Caldwell, senior editor, and Georgette Crisp became an excellent team in producing the senior section: Donna Foos, underclassmen editor, completed the underclassmen section with the combined efforts of Pam Allbert, Georgette Crisp, Robert Gallup, Gail Heywood, Bryan Iones, and Arlene Minsterman. Pam Sprague, as or- ganization editor, along with Pat Landgraf, rounded up information and pictures of people to complete the organi- zation section while Steve Currin, Ricky Futrell, Robert Gallup, Bryan Iones, and Arlene Minsterman tackled the sports. Melanie Moniot, Georgette Crisp, Fay Ryan, and Frank Babonis attempted to convey the spirit of the classroom for the curriculum section. Fay Ryan, Stella Roberson, and Stephanie Wright produced many pages of typewritten material, seemingly in minutes, to the dismay of the digit-swollen staff who did other portions themselves. Mr. Richard Absalom, business sponsor, and Mr. William Perry, sales sponsor, were assisted by Cheryl Connelly, Teresa Phillips, Iohn Hargrove, and Shell Purvis. Staff members also helped on promoting sales of the book. Much of the photography was done by Mclntosh Studi- os. Student photographers w'ho contributed pictures were Mike Munden, Fred Ard, Mike Raper, and Pam Sprague.
