Steve Skillman and Mona Liza Nunez. the Kellam High School Marching Band has participated in numerous parades and activities around the Tidewater area. The Oyster Bowl Parade in Norfolk, the Azalea Parade in Norfolk. the Williamsburg Band Muster in Williamsburg, the Columbus Day Parade in Hampton and the Knotts Island Parade, were just a few of the parades they marched in. The Kellam Marching Band held two concerts this year. one in December and one in May. In Ianuary. seven members of the band were picked for District II-A Regional Band. The members picked were: Steve Skillman. Iohn Cason. Rhonda Hoffman. Yvonne Gephart, Lou Anne Swenson and Glenna Whiteferd. New this year was the Band-Parent Association. The parents of band members got together to formulate ideas and to raise money for new band uniforms and instruments. 262

Slinllt-y McNeal. Sta-vc Cohen. Elliott. Brenda Rossuni, Pat Canipgell. lRow 31 Ray Burke, David Future Musicians of America came into existance this year and proceeded to work towards their goal of promoting individual performances and providing a music scholarship for a Kellam student. The second part of their goal, providing a scholarship, was unfortunately not achievedg however, the Future Musicians of America progressed greatly during the year. Members of the Future Musicians of America and their sponser, Mr. Tatem, worked hard to provide Kellam with interesting musical programs. The main product of their work was the appearance of the Old Dominion Concert Chorus and Madrigals at Kellam. Randy Callahan, president, created and organized the Future Musicians of America. 261
