March of Dimes And Calendar Sales Highlight Year As Projects For Future Business Leaders Of merica The purpose and functions of the Future Business Leaders of America are to develop competent, aggressive business leadership: strengthen the tponfidence of young men and women in themselves and their work: create more interest and understanding in the intelligent choice of business occupations: encourage members in the development of individual projects and in establishing themselves in business: encourage members to improve the homes and community: participate in worthy undertakings for the improvement of business and the community: develop character: prepare for useful citizenship and foster patriotism: participate in co-operative effort: en- courage and practice thrift: encourage improvement in scholarship and promote school loyalty: provide for and encourage the development of organized recrea- tional activities and to improve and establish standards for entrance into store and office occupations. Standing: Lyn Pepper, X irgima Teachers, Staff Honored At Christmas With Future Homemakers of America is a National Organiza- tion of Students who are studying homemaking in junior and senior high schools. The goal of the Future Home- makers of America members is to help individuals improve personal, family. and community living. During the past school year, in order to attain their goal, the Future Homemakers of America contributed a goodwill basket to a needy family for Thanksgiving so that one more family would have more to be thankful for. At Christmas time, the Future Homemakers of America showed their Christmas spirit by giving a Coffee Social for faculty and staff personnel at Kellam. Debra Ioyner: and treasurer. Kay McPherson. Annual F all Rally For Area Sponsored B Kellam High nit Cf Distributive Education The Distributive Education Club is an extension of the Distributive Education classroom, and is a professional organization for the working student. Through the Distributive Education program, members of the Distributive Education Club are provided with social, rec- reational. classroom and on-the-job experience. Because the club is part of the Distributive Education program. students. who otherwise have no time for other organiza- tions, are proved with a convenient, sensible way to express their school spirit. ' ,Url Since they couldn't get on a float, DE officers Richard Davis, Iackie Iordan and Lee Knight were more than happy to sit on a car. The Distributive Education Club started the year oft' with a back-to-school picnic and officer elections both rolled into one. Homecoming spelled success for Distributive Education Club members when their float won second place. The Distributive Education Club remembered the less fortunate by giving food and clothing to a needy family at Christmas and again in April. The an- nual fall rally for Distributive Education students in Virginia Beach and Nasemond County was also sponsored by the Kellam unit. Distributive Education Club members showed their artistic talent by painting their Distributive classrooms while concluding the first semester with a Christmas card sale. Second semester activities included guest speakers at club meetings. participation in local. state, and national club contests. and an employee-employer banquet. Lastly. the Distributive Education Club held an end of the year picnic for past and incoming Distributive Education students. Officers this year were: president, Lee Knight: vice- president.
