May Sports Awards Banquet Honors All 1970-71 Outstanding Kellam Athletes 40 6. lm: Besides games, victories, pep rallies, and all the excitement that accompanies them, there is one sports event that every athlete anxiously antici- pates. the Sports Awards Banquet. Held this year on May 26, It is a banquet-ceremony honoring the outstanding athletes of the year. ln the men's varsity fields, the most valuable awards went to Dennis Castello, track: Steve Currin. baseball: Dennis Dozier, golf: Chris Iude, tennis: Torn Leahy, gymnastics: Blair Sawyer, basketball: Herb Scott. field track: LaSalle Wallace, wrestling. Rick Futrell received the SPARC Award being the most outstanding senior athlete. Wendy Howell took the most valuable award in girls' gymnastics while Donna Hutchinson received the comparable cheerleading award. Two junior varsity wrestlers also took awards: Kirk Upton was voted most valuable, and Gene Bunn was considered most improved.
